My family and myself spent an afternoon with Walter, and it was the best decision we made. We roamed Venice streets seeing sights off the beaten path while Walter gave us insight of the life in the old times with anecdotes and colourful stories. As he added context in three hours we got more out of Venice with him than... More

we have 28 people in our group, we are happy that Walter organized our two days tour in Venice after the Viking cruise. Walter and Andrea have done excellent job to show this beautiful city to our group. We all enjoyed it.

We've visited Venice a number of times now but the time spent with Walter has been the most enjoyable and interesting of all our experiences. No trip to Venice should be without a rowing lesson with Walter. We not only learnt how to row the Venetian style but Walter's love for the city helped us get closer to its history... More

Walter is an excellent example of someone who loves what he does, and it shows in all the best ways. He got his information not merely studying textbooks, but by reading its centuries old city's registers... imagine that. It shows without a doubt. Walter showed us Venice like we never had a chance to see it, and like we wanted... More

We met Andrea at The Rialto Bridge for the Classic Venice Tour. We spent a great couple of hours learning about the history of Venice and some of it's famous residents of the past. Andrea was good fun and informative. We ended our tour at the magnificent church of St John & St Paul and Andrea gave us lots of... More

Last week my son and I had the pleasure of meeting and being guided by Paula. A total professional. On time and in tune with our needs as her clients. Her English was superb and her knowledge of the city was complete. We got what we paid for; a full day, a comprehensive view of Venice, a fun Venetian lunch... More

Walter got back to me very quickly and assigned us Paola as a tour guide. I asked them to focus the tour on habits and anecdotes so my students would be interested and would remember the most out of it. Paola met us at the train station at our arrival. She was wonderful and great at telling us about the... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
