We have wonderful memories of this impromptu visit! We were very well received on a Sunday late afternoon. The owner of the place, Ms. Parmentier, gave us a very detailed tour and the report on the design of the barrels was fascinating. Without forgetting the tasting which was very nice.
I recommend this area

A fascinating place with home hospitality. We booked a guided tour + picnic in Chatuae Les Chaumes in advance via email. The first thing which was immediately apparent is that Anne speaks very good English which is not a common thing across other winemakers whom we considered to visit. It's a big plus if you are interested in some history of the place and theory of winemaking - Anne is a great knowledgable storyteller!
We really enjoyed the visit. Anne not only did a great tour but also answered all our questions. It was a pleasure talking to her. Homemade food which was served for the picnic was off the charts, and it was called "picnic" but in fact, we don't usually eat that much even on dinner :)

the picnic for 4 of us was booked by a local french travel agent and when we arrived, we had absolutely no expectations, a long drive ahead of us and were kind of in a hurry. Anne, our host gave us a in-depth review of her family wine-making business, grape varieties and processes. We were at many wine tasting events in wineries in North America, but the simplicity and in depth of this family wine making was very charming. Then Anne made a picnic with wine and home made delicacies that included a wild boar pate and foie gras made by her 94 year old mom along with local cheeses and deserts. It was just like a visit of the most hospitable home with wine and food that will never be forgotten.
We thank our travel agent Nicola from French Side Travel for booking it and Anne Parmentier for hosting it.
If you are in Bordeaux and heading north, you owe it to yourself to book and visit this place. The highlight of a beautiful trip.

Mike, Thank you for this laudatory commentary. It was a pleasure to meet you and your friends. Time went too quickly and it was frustrating not to be able to spend more time knowing each other. I hope you had a good journey in France and back to Canada. Anne

Five stars full stop!
Our host was super knowledgeable, engaged and passionate about her family business and wine making art in general.
We have also learned about barrel making and how aging affects quality, texture and complexity of wine. Highly recommended!

We went to visit Chateau les Chaumes on our way back from the beautiful Blaye citadel. The chateau owner gave us the tour of her family property. She provided her expert knowledge on wine history and viniculture. We learned a lot in only 1,5 hours. The wine tasting was great. We loved the wines and the explanations on how they are made. Amazing to experience the beautifuls fruits of such hard labour. We immediately organised a few cases to be send back home. Looking forward to be visit again

In September a group of eight of us were in Blaye and visited Château les Chaumes for a wine tasting and picnic. It was a beautiful and sunny day and as we arrived Madame Parmentier was busy arranging the long tables for our picnic.

What a charming and welcoming hostess she was, and while we were admiring the beautiful surroundings, she went off to get our wines and finish preparing the home-made quiches and delicious salads for our meal.

Madame Parmentier talked us through the different wines and which food they paired well with. We were then left to enjoy the superb wines, delicious food, desserts and cheeses, of which there was more than enough.

The atmosphere was relaxed after which we had a tour and talk and the opportunity to ask questions and purchase wines.

This was one of the most memorable and delightful occasions I have ever experienced even though I didn't manage to get her mother's secret quiche recipe.
Everyone in the group enjoyed the afternoon and I would recommend this visit whole-heartedly.

Merci beaucoup Madame Parmentier et à bientôt.
