It's definitely an interesting stop along the road just to look at all the trout in the holding areas and then to walk up to the damn and the lake itself. The interpretive center however is more or less half closed up as there's little to see or do. Looks like a lack of funding. A nice spot for a... More

Decided to visit the McGowan fish hatchery enroute to Digby from Lunenburg. Glad we stopped by. The facility has some informative displays, and the on-site manager was kind enough to give us a tour of the hatchery, educate us about trout and the purpose of the hatchery. This is a great place to come and visit any time of the day or evening. During the day you learn about the life span of the trout in the area, there are tiny fish to see, birds to watch, and on the evening when it is "chimney swift " time you see hundreds of them gather and swoop down... More
