We did this daily on our trip. It's a 2 mile loop to get around the base, with some gradual ups and downs. Breathtaking views even from the base. Shaded partially, sea breeze, simply beautiful and perfect for a jog or walk.

Very scenic walk around the mount. Great views of ocean, bay and foliage. I think it takes about 45 minutes. Hard packed dirt surface with a few dips and small hills. People of all ages and fitness seemed to be out enjoying it. Lots of families with 3-generations and babies out and about.

For those not wanting to or not capable of climbing to the summit the base track still offers 360 views and is a lot easier on the knees.

Enjoyed walking around the base track both ways = around 6 kms. Some people were wearing thongs, sandals and joggers. Walkers old and young enjoying either a leisurely stroll or fast jog- your choice

This was a nice easy walk around the mount with many shaded areas and places to stop and rest for those in need. Many beautiful views from the track. A good way to start the day followed by breakfast in the cute little town. Best to avoid the days when the cruise ships are docked as the town gets quite... More

This is a leisurely walk with views to die for and lots to see on the water, sometimes in the water, friendly people passing by you. If you are there when a cruise ship comes in or out of the harbor, it will be etched in your mind forever. You feel like you could reach out and touch the ship... More

Reasonably easy walk for all ages, very special views of The Mount beach, out around the ocean and back to the Port of Tauranga side. Leisurely stroll about an hour or so, recommend suitable walking footwear. Well worth doing.

It was a very hot day and as neither of us is very fit (bad knees, arthritis) we decided just to walk round the base track and we were not disappointed. The scenery all around the Mount was stunning with the blue sea crashing against the rocks, the cormorants resting on the rocks, the trees and beautiful beaches. You do... More

After our tour to Rotorua, we did not have time for the Summit track, but we walked most of the Base Track. It is a very flat, easy to walk, trail. You will see rabbits, sheep and other birds, etc. The views of the bay and harbor are excellent. Trail is a dirt path and well-worn.
