We were traveling thru Germany and saw the signs for Trifels Castle and decided.. why not? It was a beautiful drive to the Castle... parking was adequate the day we were there. It's quite the hike up to the top. Neat ruins to discover. It was cloudy and rainy the day we were there, but on a clear day the... More

What a hike. There is no easy way to visit Trefles Castle but to walk and climb the steep footpath from the valley below. After the exhausting climb we reached the Castle. We learnt all about it’s historic past and the fact that Richard the Lion heart, King of England has once been imprisoned there. A great deal of this... More

Nice brisk walk to the castle. Even though it will not open till late February the scenery was breathtaking and the photos endless. A great day to spend with my husband and get out and enjoy sunshine

An interesting castle where Richard the Lionheart was once held. More than half was rebuilt and added in the 19th and 20th century, but very much in style of the original. From the top you have a magnificent view of the surroundings and in one of the rooms you can watch an informative documentary about the history of the castle.... More

We went to visit this place because King Richard the lionhearted was imprisoned here in 1193 and being an enthusiast on the subject I had to see the place. However I thought information on the topic was sadly lacking. We could not even find out exactly where the Lionheart was held. There are just rooms after rooms - all of... More

This was a nice restored castle. Not too terrible of a hike to the top. Beautiful scenery at the top. There are toilets at the top, but no food or beverage options. Admission to the castle as well both the hotel restaurant and the little snack shop at the base are cash only. There is no ATM nearby, so be... More

This castle is well-worth a stop to see the reconstruction and replicas. It's also great fun for kids with many corners and rooms to explore, while adults appreciate the views.

A beautiful walk through the woods of pfalzelwald when you start on the parking by naturfreundehaus. It's easy, in the shade and only 3 kms slowly going up. Not steep. Wheelchairs can go closer on the next parking and it's all asphalt from there. Impressive castle and little magical. Good history and a labyrinth of stairs. Really nice to get... More

This castle is located on top of a mountain (imagine that) and requires a steep 20 minute walk from a parking lot (1.5 Euro to park). If you are disabled, you can call the castle for clearance to use the delivery road to park by the castle, but be warned, it is all stairs from there. Much of what you... More
