It's unique, perhaps the only one like it on the globe. One can stop any season, any day and see it differently, depending on the amount of water there is. Unfortunately, it is not accessible for visitors, only a pullout at the highway. This is being worked on and a boardwalk will be built once sufficient funds are at hand.... More

Just west of the town of Osoyoos up towards Richter Pass on Highway 3 is Spotted lake. A natural wonder of the world as it is the only lake that has this amount of minerals in the world. It is easily viewed from Hwy.3 but you can't go down to the site as it is protected.

The spotted lake occurs because of chemicals in the soil that turns the lake white with spots. There is an information tablet on the side of the road that explains a lot about how and why the lake exists, and it's significance to the local Indians. Unfortunately it is not marked so you will probably see it at the last... More

It's unfortunate you can only view this in passing or from the shoulder of the highway (it's on private property). You'll have to look it up online if you want more information (it is pretty neat).

It's not everyday you can see a lake with spots on it. It's not labeled well on the highway so if your driving a little quicker then the speed limit your gonna be pumpin the brakes. Close to this is a view point of the town which is quite beautiful as well.

Too bad for us the lake was completely frozen over. We could see about three tan colored spots on the lake but that was it. Otherwise it was totally white.

It was worth the stop to look at the Spotted Lake. It was very interesting and worth taking photos. You can't go down to the lake, but this is understandable when you read the sign.

Got chance to see this lake finally. It was really amazing and the formation of small ponds within the lake because of minerals and salts, is very interesting too. It is not open to the public access, however, you still can see this lake from a distance. Govt is planning to open this place to the public access.

A short drive out of town (10-15 minuets) this lake is a pretty cool sight! It will be great when you can walk down closer, however it was still pretty cool from up the top! There is no sign from the town side so you will more then likely miss it and have to do a U-turn to get here.
