Okay, I get the need to be careful these days. I am pleased the showers and washrooms were open. The extra cleaning is good. However, please warm up the showers. Lukewarm would be a generous description of what we had.
Also, playgrounds all around have opened up. Not here which leaves kids with nowhere to play but the roads throughout the campground. I can not begin to count the close calls with cars and kids I saw. If kids had more options in play grounds there would be less of them in high risk areas such as the roads. Please do not site physical distancing. 10-12 or more kids hanging out, riding bikes and generally having a great time are NOT all brothers and sisters. Please open up the playgrounds for the good of everyone.

Arrived early morning, after driving up from Victoria, for a peaceful leisurely stroll on the beach and trails. Disappointed not to see the bunnies others had mentioned in the parking lot, but may have been due to another heat wave. The parking lot was getting very busy by the time we left just after 10 am. Nice for nature walk and/or searching for shells. Lots of people arriving for dog walking (on leash), canoeing, picnicking, and playing in the waves and sand.

Rathtrevor Beach is so beautiful in so many different ways at different times of the day...depending on the tide and what you like to do! Paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, catching crab, hunting for shells, sand dollars! Tide pools. Shallow waters!

I had my dog with me so we were limited on areas we could enjoy.... but rightfully so.... it is quite the ecological marvel! Beautiful and expansive beach, surrounded by a well groomed trail system to keep people from straying onto the sensitive areas teaming with little black bunny rabbits (that my dog wanted to chase). There are beach spots that dogs are ok to be in the off seasons. Definitely worth a visit!!

Pssssttt? Are you there? I got a secret. Don't tell anyone, okay? Rathtrevor Beach is not just a unique low tide phenomena (The beach stretches for nearly a kilometer at low tide) and for most of the summer, the waters at high tide are near-Mediterranean in temperature. The best thing about Rathtevor? Even on a hectic long weekend holiday, the park can absorb the masses of bathers, gawkers and B-BQ enthusiasts and when the tide is waaaay out, you can always find a spot to wander in peace and stare out across the water at snow-capped BC coastal mountains

We loved this beach! Lots of fun for the whole family. Kids learned to skimboard, look
for little crabs, splash around, and just relax. Parents and grandparents were able to set up the lawn chairs, dip their feet in the warm water and go for a walk along the beach. Saw lots of families having a great time. Lots of parking and lots of room to social distance.

“Loop” sites: good option to be in the park but needs some more upgrades. Most of Rathtrevor has running water toilets, but loop sites do not. Extra waste removal would be a good thing as after a week the pit toilets were in need of clean out. Handy to have Sani-dump access neat entrance.

The forest is very close to the city of Parksville. Easy commute by car. There is lots of camp sites in the forest. The place looks safe. One can walk along the walk or take the trails in the forest. Relaxing to spend an entire day.

We decided to stay in the overflow loops this year...and this proved to be just as big a mistake as staying in the main campground.
The outhouses are THE WORST I've ever dealt with. The putrid stench that emanated from the one in our loop wafted directly through our site all day long. It was so bad that we could sit or eat in our site, luckily we were with another couple, so we visited them a lot.
When we complained FOUR TIMES, their idea of a solution was to simply pump it out...no washing or rinsing afterwards, just sucked it all out with a pumper truck and dove away, which only made things worse.

What time does the gate lock at rathtrevor public parking
Written 21 April 2024
How many campsites does Rathtrevor keep open during the winter? Thanks for any help!
Written 9 March 2021
Yes there are - but you need to go to the beach on a day when you can walk to the water's edge at low tide. In January the beach can be windy, cold and wet - but dress appropriately and it is an exhilarating place to visit.

No Rathtrevor Beach does not have electrical hook ups. We have to use our generator.
It doesnt look like that is going to change anytime soon either.
