About
More than 100 years ago, idealistic pioneers of all descriptions – from trappers to tie hackers, railroaders to miners, businessmen to bootleggers - carved a home in Edson out of what was little more than a firm place in the muskeg. Our museum offers a fascinating glimpse into our region’s natural world and the pioneer life. The Travel Centre provides plenty of information for the curious traveler, has knowledgeable staff, an internet kiosk, free Wi-Fi, a coffee bar and a gift shop featuring local art and crafts. Although there is a fee to enter the museum, the travel centre and other amenities are free to all.

Very Educative

We found this museum by chance as we saw a green park with a small plane from Canadian Air Force and a train wagon of Canadian Railways in the centre of Edson. We made a stop and visited the museum and also information centre. There is still a part of the original station building. It is not only a museum about the history of Canadian railways but The Galloway Station Museum will take you back to the early days of the Coal Branch, the first Nation or First Albertans, the fauna and more. Entrance fee $ 5,00 and you can have a cup of tea for free. It's worth a visit.

Nice place to visit and interesting displays. The site is close to Pokemon Stops and Gyms for those who have children who engage in this game.

Love Local History
Jul 2018 • Couples
We live in Alberta but often forget to explore our own backyard. This is a great stop to learn a piece of our own history. Full of great factoids, actual pieces and personal histories. I never knew Edson had such diversity of industry. Super friendly staff and a fun afternoon.

Thanks for leaving a review, and telling us about your experience. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the Museum! Did you get a chance to look through the Coal Mine Tour Map during your visit? This driving tour takes you into the historic coal branch area and provides information about the once-thriving communities in its past. We highly recommend this driving tour to those individuals interested in learning more about the industry surrounding Edson. We hope to see you again soon!

Thank you for the kind words. We appreciate you stopping in. We had a chuckle over the cougar photo with the pheasant peeping through. These are great photos from our Nature World Exhibit. We hope to see you again!

Staying at the nearby Super 8 Hotel, we took a stroll to this park. I found the old CNR caboose interesting, while our grandson liked the aircraft and the giant squirrel! Nice park, well maintained.

Galloway Station Museum

We visited this museum August 1, 2016. It is well laid out with an interesting collection of railroad and pioneering artifacts. The movie about the Grande Prairie Trail was very very interesting, but went on too long. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help try to find information about ancestors who lived on the Trail. Minor detraction was the large number of typographical errors in the displays.
