These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National Historic Site of Canada, started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

No matter what the season, Butchart Gardens is always stunning and a 'must see' for anyone. We feel getting an annual pass is the only way to go as otherwise it seems a tad expensive. Not only do my husband and I each have a...More

I have never seen so many flowers in my life, especially roses. My sister and I found a new one we absolutely love - a white rose called "Pope John Paul II".

As other reviews have noted, it is crowded and no reduced rate for seniors. But the colors and flowers and the grounds were fabulous. The history is interesting particularly how a fountain was designed by the son (or grandson?) and that his plumber helped build...More

Impressive from start to finish, the attention to detail from arrangement of beds to making sure all the flowers looked fresh. I loved the arched walkways of roses and the sunken gardens were breathtaking. Would love to see it in the spring. Don't miss this...More

Of course the Gardens are magnificient, but the crowds are choking. We went mid week about noonish and it was really daunting to try to move through the garden at all, let alone enjoy it. Next time I would check to see what Cruise ships...More

It was very busy on the day we went, so go early. We took the boat ride and it was very informative. We learned things about the park on the boat ride that we would not have know otherwise. Very well kept grounds, flowers and...More

We were told that July was the best time to come because the roses were in full bloom. The rose garden was my favorite & the scent was heavenly. The colors throughout the gardens were fabulous but my favorite color was the pinks! My husband...More

Most beautiful gardens I've ever seen! Going in I thought the price was high but the first few steps in I knew it was worth it. It is crowded but we were still able to see and take all the pictures we wanted. I would...More

Don't tell them it reminds you of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, they are very protective of their Butchart Gardens. Lovely former quarry converted into a flower, plant and tree oasis. Great walking paths, photo opportunities and lovely gift shop.

I have not been there at night, so I would not be able to tell you. However, I figure it would still be light for a lot of the time then.
