This is a proper, traditional pub. Slightly tired in the upholstery department, but quirky, atmospheric and an insight into old Clifton.

Stumbled on the place by accident when returning from a local restaurant to our hotel. Doesn't look much from the outside and might be slightly difficult to find but worth the effort. Popped in for a drink and just loved the atmosphere. The main bar is on road level and there is a lounge accessible from the elevated pavement or... More

Interesting little pub with two floors, good selection of beers and a small but very nice and reasonably priced menu.

The Portcullis is a very nice little pub, where dogs are allowed. The food is simple but very good - curry night in particular is a favourite. There are board games upstairs and a good range of gins and whiskies for such a small place. We love it here!

Last in my search for a good real ale pub in Clifton we found the Portcullis.Love the place.Friendly owners with a great range of well kept beer.If only I'd found this place earlier in the evening!!.I will be back the next time I'm in Bristol.Apparently they have regular events which are listed on facebook and the food sounded good too

after a great meal up the road in the nearby Avon Gorge Hotel we wandered down the road and found this delightful little pub tucked in amongst the little houses. The beauty of this little pub is it has two entries up top along the terrace and the lower terrace where the bar is. If you go by the upper... More

We popped in for a couple, and stayed chatting to a local for a while. This is a delightful pub, with a right-of-way in front of its upstairs floor as well as a street level. Bonkers! Pop into this pub after you've had one on the White Lion's terrace (for the views of the bridge).

We popped in here for a drink, they have a really range of ales that change regularly. It's a very small but cosy bar, a little out of the way from the busier haunts in Clifton which is nice.

Had lunch at the Portcullis on Saturday & really liked the place. Small pub on two floors with good beer & very pleasant staff. The Marvel Comic wallpaper upstairs is eye-catching, although the cardboard Clint Eastwood was a bit studenty. Our party of 11 (aged 5 – 80, based London & Bristol) were very happy with food, drink, service &... More
