My girlfriends employer hold an amazing Ball every summer and they chose Ely Cathedral as their venue. The Cathedral itself is amazing with 100s of years of history and the inside is so fabulous with architecture. We had the side hall and even that was...More

Worth visiting definitely The cathedral has its origins in AD 672 when St Etheldreda built an abbey church. The present building dates back to 1083, and cathedral status was granted it in 1109. Until the reformation it was the Church of St Etheldreda and St...More

Just amazing. Great tour in the west tower with fantastic views from the top. Well worth the visit, but allow a few hours. Temperature outside in the 30s again today so great to be in the Cathedral.

Have been a few times- always well worth a visit although would recommend going in once - the building architecturally from outside is just as amazing to look at for a free day out

Naturally it's a spectacular sight both from a distance and up-close however the cost of admission is prohibitive. It may be a personal opinion but it is my belief that the Church belongs to us all and therefore the levying of an admission fee is...More

Q. What's the difference between a museum and a cathedral? A. Museums are free. That is really a little unfair as museums have ways of making you pay and many - if not most - cathedral do not charge an entrance fee but rather ask...More

If I take the train from London to Ely to visit the cathedral, when I get off the train, is it considered walking distance from the train station to the Cathedral? Thank you.

Not too far, about ten or fifteen minutes, along the river, then through the gardens and park, and along The Gallery to the West door.
