The Stained Glass Museum offers a unique insight into the fascinating history of stained glass, an art-form that has been practised in Britain for at least thirteen hundred years. Our permanent gallery displays over 125 stained glass panels representing eight hundred years of the history of this ancient art, from the thirteenth century to the present day. All the stained glass panels in the gallery are displayed at eye-level enabling visitors to have a rare close-encounter with the art of stained glass. Temporary exhibitions are also held throughout the year, highlighting panels and designs from the Museum's reserve collection.

My wife makes stained glass - sadly she was not with me on this trip, but I took the opportunity to see their excellent collection. Well set out, and explained, it dates from the very early to the contemporary. If you ever wondered how they...More

Having walked round the outside of Ely cathedral, the entrance to the museum is off to the right as you walk into the cathedral. Up some tight windy stairs so might be difficult for some to access. However once you do get to the top...More

This is an excellent museum with lots of information about the production and history of stained glass. Fantastic range of exhibits from many different places. Well worth a visit and an excellent guide book. Definitely recommended and not to be missed if you visit Ely.

I mentioned this in with Ely cathedral, but am happy to review it separately. It has a fascinating display of a traditional craft through the ages and is well worth the visit.

Good examples of stained glass which are well displayed. Interesting seeing the cathedral on a different level. Video volume on very low so hard to hear.

The Stained Glass in the Cathedral itself is magnificent, but up in the South Triforium, up a winding stair case is a wonderful treasure trove of design and instruction on the skills which have made up Stained Glass production for public buildings and especially churches...More

We booked the full on tour with this includes and it was worth a visit. To be close to stained glass is impressive and there are many styles and ideas to browse over.

Overall, the admission fees at Ely Cathedral are a bit steep, but the little bit extra you pay to get into the stained glass museum is well worth it. It is unusual to be able to get so close to very old pieces of stained...More

Very well presented in the wonderful setting of Ely Cathedral ( itself well worth a visit, so we combined the entrance fee to see both the museum and the Cathedral ). Close up, the stained glass is beautiful, and the information boards give an interesting...More
