Wisbech is classified as an "attraction" in Ely: it is, in fact, a town of about 20,000 people, some miles distant. The parish church of Sts Peter and Paul is one of a tiny number in Europe to have a double chancel, and the local grammar school (now fee-paying) was founded in the church in 1379. The castle was once... More

Decent small town in the Fens. Has a market place with Saturday market. Many shops around the square and down the Sidestreets. Has a small dock and marina.

Now perhaps struggling as the railway (two stations) has long gone, there are some gems which need to be sought out. The parish charch, which was designated the pro-cathedral for the Diocese of Ely had that cathedral been bombed during the Second World War, it is one of, perhaps only three churches in Europe to have a double chancel, and... There are many period buildings along the river which have been used in many films. Peckover House is a must to go and visit. The riverside has been improved and a new marina created. Two Cinemas and small Theatre all well worth a visit.

Deciding on Wisbech as a possible venue for our Saturday morning walk and pub lunch, I called in on my way back from Peterborough and was appalled at the feeling of degradation and soulnessless of the place. A run down old shopping centre, 1960's industrial sheds, miserable people and traffic everywhere made worse by awful pubs and and a muddy... More

I was pleasantly surprised by this town - with lots of pubs to explore Wisbech gives off an aura of faded grandeur. A great place for a party as it has a brewery museum to visit as well!
