This round stone artillery fortress was built for Henry the Eighth in 1542, using a cloverleaf plan with a four-storied round tower. Take the free audio tour to discover life at the castle during the Civil War and explore the castle and grounds with its stunning views out to sea. Child friendly and dog friendly.

From the entrance the chap who served us was friendly and even the dog was allowed in. The castle was one of the prettiest and well restored I’ve visited and the grounds were also lovely to wander around.

When I last visited St Mawes Castle, many years previously, there was not much there. With the weather being bad, whilst staying nearby, I decided to give it another shot and very glad that I did. They seemed to have opened up more of the...More

What a great little place St Maws is. The castle well worth a visit. Nice easy walk to it from the harbour. Great little bakery that can fill most appetites. Use the boats for a nice trip trip round the coast

This is a small castle but as the saying goes perfectly formed. One of Henry viii s coastal battlements and it is steeped in history. It's on a number of levels and not suitable for the less abled. We got here via the ferry from...More

Loved this castle and it's deceptively big interior! Loved all the classic windy staircases and the views were stunning. Walking in down the grounds was lovely as well and at only £5 something per adult I thought it was better than it's partner castle Pendennis....More

Wonderfully preserved and sure Henry V111 would still recognise it. The children loved it with all the floors and "characters" in the rooms. Fantastic views of the Carrick Roads that Henry wanted to protect and the sister castle on the other sides. Nice grounds and...More

Just a couple of hours at the castle but if it is a nice day you may want to enjoy the view over to the Falmouth area for a bit longer. St Mawes village is idyllic!

We don't have a dog, but we saw lots of people in the village with their dogs on a lead.
