The Plym Valley Railway has re-built a one and a half mile section of the ex-Great Western branch line from Marsh Mills to Plym Bridge. The line used to run from Tavistock Junction, just outside of Plymouth, to Launceston. It is a heritage railway centre where we are preserving steam and diesel locomotives, carriages, wagons, and other historic railway artifacts to recreate the atmosphere of a bygone age.We operate passenger trains on selected days over a section of the line from our station at Marsh Mills to Plym Bridge Platform.New and enthusiastic volunteers are needed in all departments, including Motive Power, Permanent Way, Carriage and Wagon, Building and Works, fund raising and retail outlets.

This is a small concern, which has grown very slowly in its 35+-year existence. It now has a mile and a half of track, and stations have been built at each end. There is a train service on something like fifty days of the year,...More

The line is only about a mile in length, which had included a small extension to the Plym Valley Woods. Great for the kids and families, however like with all attractions, best not to attend when there's a special event or during the peak tourist...More

I'll start this review by stating that I take no joy on writing anything less than positive vibes for a piece of heritage run by volunteers. This is purely to highlight to those, possibly likes us, with a young family and no money to waste....More

The entrance, car parking, works yard etc can all be a bit off putting if you are used to the somewhat sterile atmosphere at other heritage railways - but if you get over this, you will find a really friendly group of volunteers and a...More

Went here with little expectation. What I found was a very friendly bunch of older volunteers who have them selves a very nice scenic railway. They could do with more volunteers and money but this seems to be the story for all smaller preserved railways....More

This is a worth a visit if only to help the volunteers, accomplice the re- building of a lovely steam railway. The people who volunteer were so helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, they must really enjoy what they do....More

A really friendly little railway that needs the support of the local community and local government. It has much potential. Given the financial backing of of business and goverment it would flourish. Thanks Malcolm for the tour despite it not being an operating day.

Walking through wonderful woods when we come across the steam Santa train. Full of happy children and exhausted parents.everyone was enjoying themselves even the staff. The sound of the steam train was very atmospheric. A great walk or ride on a Sunday.
