My first visit to the Drum theatre in years and as with all places where you have no choice in your fellow visitors there were highs and lows.. Or in this case zips, sweet wrappers and a need for WD40! The Drum is a small intimate space, where a respect for other theatre goers is a must. I have seen... More

Sits about 175 in various configurations. Always 2 wheelchair spaces but flexible. Specialises in innovative and often intimate performances and seems to attract a slightly different crowd than the large adjacent auditorium now slightly oddly renamed the Lyric stage. We are looking forward to experiencing the third performance space called The Lab.

I love the Drum space and have seen dozens of various and fine performances of so many difficult types. Keep your eyes on the schedules and each season you will find several things you will enjoy. None of the schmaltzy formality of the main auditorium. But there are now other options, not least the brand new performance arts centre in... More

Have had more enjoyment here than in any other theatre in the city or Exeter. I appreciate that it is just a box with slightly versatile seating but what we have seen and experienced here has shown just how well intimate performances even when they are wild and rowdy or shocking or tragic can work very effectively.

I avoid the main stage as I dislike musical theatre and head for the drum every time...so much more to offer. Fantastic plays that I would never get to see unless I lived in London. We are so fortunate in Plymouth to have so much great theatre.

The Drum Theatre plays host to a wide variety of productions from companies and performers of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. I have seen a number of shows and am a regular visitor. Ticket prices are reasonable which makes this accessible for anyone. Something to suit all tastes. Definitely worth a look.

As a theatre, it brings to mind the small off- Broadway theatres, where the dreamers go to stage their off the wall dreams and the critics dislike. But I guess that, as an offshoot to the main theatre, that is, where they stage what they know will not be generally well attended, then, first rate.
