There are many wow factors to this garden. The pyramid yews are just magnificent and a sight to behold, standing so huge in a garden room all of their own. The vista of the 3 fountains through the walkway of 3 of the garden rooms...More

Beautiful Tudor house surrounded by stunning gardens. The house is full of character and period furniture. Lovely open fires made you feel really cosy and welcome. Some rooms were out of bounds as it is still lived in by the Cooke family since 1957. The...More

What a gem of a place. Looks of smaller areas of garden each with their own character. Lots of moving water too. We had a great time exploring all of it. The walk beside the river was (as warned) a little slippery but fine so...More

Lovely Gardens great afternoon tea with scones jam and cream. Good staff and a nice gift shopwith some different items for sale. A very interesting house well worth a visit. We had a Travel Zoo voucher for two so it was also very good value.

Athelhampton House and Gardens is a great place to visit. Plenty of interest in the gardens and a pleasant walk along the river. The house is seeped in history and there is a very nice restaurant.

The gardens although not large were varied and pretty. Spent a very enjoyable hour and half wandering from area to area. The house again not large but very interesting. Easy to park and on arrival given a guide book which really helped make the most...More

was really looking forward to the dog show and Fete, arrived and people were parking on the soft grass verge outside, was directed to the carpark entrance. Waited patiently and saw a space, an "elderly" lady who had pulled in from the other direction, therefore...More

Dear White_13 Many thanks for the review. Whilst I welcome the feedback its worth mentioning that the Fete day you refer to is merely hosted at Athelhampton by the local Parish Churches, and they are responsible for the infrastructure of the day. That said, I...More

We visited on Bank Holiday Monday but apart from a little trouble parking all went well. £5 for the fete and gardens was reasonable. There was a dog show on at the same time and the dogs that look like their owners were very amusing....More

Dear Derek C Thanks for the review, I am sorry you had trouble parking, its a big car-park, but the village fete is a popular event, and does get busy very quickly! Thanks for the kind words about our Lemon Drizzle cake, which is made...More

A Birthday celebration for 6 of us, the carvery was one of the best we had, and although they had a group booking of 31, the food and service was excellent with staff who seemed happy to help. It was a hot August day and...More

Sadly Athelhampton is several miles from the nearest stations at Dorchester although it is possible to transfer by taxi. It would take between one hour and two hours to tour the house and garden.

I believe there is a bus service (First bus service 187) which can get you to the nearby village of Puddletown, but I am not sure how often or how far it goes.
