Home to the world famous Mermaid Hotel, but a joy to walk along the cobbled streets even on a gloomy winter day and enjoy the beauty of the ancient houses.

Yes this is a pleasant 5 minute walk on an uphill cobbled street but really is not a destination in itself. The cobbles are difficult to walk upon but there is a narrow pavement on one side. Looking in the front windows of the old...More

Unfortunately a lot of scaffolding around during our recent visit but some of these ancient treasures must need a lot of upkeep. Quite unique and impressive even within a town full of similar treasures. The hotel is worth a quick peek (or drink).

It is a cobbled street, of which there are many in Rye and elsewhere, this one is particularly photogenic with its quaint old houses and the way it slopes down the hill.

Mermaid Street is absolutely lovely cobblestone road which leads up the hill to the church and the castle surrounded by beautiful Tudor houses and buildings!

Mermaid Street is a much-photographed narrow, cobbled street leading up to the old town on the hill. It used to be the town's main road (source: Wikipedia). Most of the buildings are half timbered and were rebuilt after the French burned the town in 1377....More

My favourite is Jeake's House, not the cheapest place but the best. The Old Borough Arms or the Ship Inn, all well located
