Could not miss the opportunity to see the Mappa Mundi while in Hereford but was disappointed by the exhibition. £6 to get in but apart from the map itself and the english translated version there is not a lot too it. The map is fascinating...More

I have covered this in a review of Hereford Cathedral. It is well worth a visit, as is the cathedral itself. The medieval view of the world as depicted in the map is very thought provoking.

Interesting enough, and helpful staff (hence 4 stars) but a bit disappointing that in the end it boiled down to "well, here's the map then!" I guess we were expecting a more engaging exhibition as well as seeing the actual document. There was a video...More

Very informative display including wonderful extracts from illuminated manuscripts. You can get right up to the Mappa. The new library building is a very interesting piece of architecture in itself.

Interesting displays about the Mappa Mundi and the chained library with volunteers available to explain things further. Fascinating to see how the world was viewed so long ago. And to see the huge value attached to books in times gone by.

An important part of history for sure with excellent support from the local team however when push comes to shove there isn't much more than looking to be done.

Well worth listening to the 3-minute video presentation explaining the many different aspects of the map to make this a really interesting visit. Chained library was exactly that and didn't warrant spending more than a couple of minutes, but once we'd understood the many layers...More

For the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library exhibitions we spent about an hour. There was an excellent guide in the Chained Library. The Mappa Mundi you look at! It's complicated but there are plenty of boards around... More
