Verulamium Park is a public park in the City of St Albans, Hertfordshire. Along with being a wide open area for recreational purposes, the park includes all that is left of a Roman settlement from which the park takes it's name.

The large amount of history on view in the park has resulted in a museum dedicated to the Historic Roman heritage upon which St Albans has been built.

The park also includes a long list of facilities including; Tennis courts, sand courts, football and cricket pitches, An athletics track and field facility, a golf course, childrens play area, outdoor childrens Splash Park, a large leisure facility called westminster lodge Leisure Centre which contains a gym and indoor swimming pool, a cafe, a large lake fed by the River Ver, plenty of provision for picnics and family activities and what is thought to be the oldest and one of the most famous public houses in England called The Fighting Cocks.

Overlooking the entire area is the St Albans Abbey, a large cathedral dating back to 1077AD. The park is an epicentre of greenery and wildlife and it is a hub of social and recreational activity that the people of St Albans can be extremely proud of.

Beautiful Walk, Frozen Lake!

Took a lovely walk around the lakes in early December and were treated to the rare sight of the lake being completely frozen. Made everything very pretty!

I can not say a bad word about Verulamium park. its unspoilt but also has everything there you need. The car park is free for a few hours which is very rare in St. Albans, you could walk around the lake with friends/family or on your own, and there are different variety's of birds there. its all dog friendly which... Lovely place for a good walk winter or summer. Nice landscape and views, the lake has plenty of ducks and bird life for children to spot. In summer the water splash area for children is always busy, the playground is also good with safe surfaces and picnic benches set on grass inside the fenced area. There is an outdoor gym... More

Had a drink in the Fighters then had a long walk in the misty park. How romantic - this park means a lot to me and it was great to be back.

Lovely walk, so much open space is rare now. Took an hour to walk the dog round then headed for Sunday lunch at the Rose and crown. Lovely Sunday.

Lovely lake to walk around with lots of bird life. The Roman wall ruin has an interesting alternative history on the building of the cathedral just up the hill. Could do with a bit of de-littering which does detract from the loveliness.

Verulamium Park has a lake (can get a bit smelly but good for ducks and herons) and the path round it is popular for a walk. Surface suitable for buggies etc. The grassy areas are quieter but no paved paths. Bits of Roman remains add to interest and refreshments at Inn on the Park or the cathedral.

Plenty of history dotted about this park with Roman walls and mosaics. Lots of wildlife as well. Loads of space for kids to run about - just watch out for the bird droppings - they are all round the ponds.
