Description:

Travel with "Chaucer" and his band of pilgrims from the Tabard...

Travel with "Chaucer" and his band of pilgrims from the Tabard Inn in London to Canterbury Cathedral. Our costumed characters will introduce you to what is arguably the most famous collection of tales written in Medieval Britain. The handheld audio guide will then lead you through our stunning recreation of medieval England and lead you into five of Chaucer's most loved tales. These are tales of unrequited love, attempts at cheating death, bawdy infidelity and the chance to discover what every woman wants. . .Still as engaging for today's audiences as they were 600 years ago.

Laugh with us and learn with us! The Canterbury Tales visitor attraction is the only attraction in the UK dedicated to this famous piece of English literature and is an essential addition to any Canterbury itinerary.

Foreign language audio guides are available, as is a children's version (toning down the rather bawdy nature of the tales). This is also recommended for guests learning English. Under 5s are admitted free of charge but please be advised that children of a nervous disposition may find the low lighting and realistic models a little intimidating.

I studied Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in University so thought this would be fun to experience. It was a little disappointing. The parts with a live actor were very good but there wasn't enough of that...If you've never experienced Chaucer, it is a simple way to learn a little. Our accompanying actor was excellent - I believe he was a yeoman.

It was good to hear some history and stories about Canterbury, which were really interesting. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The place does need modernising though - it's looking a bit tired.

This could never be considered as "state of the art" but it is quite entertaining and gives you an insight into the Canterbury Tales. It could be considered a bit expensive for the time it takes to go round but generally worth a visit.

The Canterbury tales tell in a very pleasant way the story of the Pilgrims who came from London to Canterbury.

Called in here whilst on a day trip. Staff were friendly and helpful. We were lucky to be the only two on our timed trip and our guides interacted well and made our "pilgrimage" entertaining. Special mention should be made of Kieran who we met in the shop after our tour. He was so helpful and informative about all aspects... More

Just over half an hour of tedium. Apart from mugs like me not sure who this is aimed at. A couple of staff members made a reasonable effort to make it interesting so will give 2 stars rather than none. Perhaps an acceptable level of attraction in the 1980's. A shame I love Chaucer and English history, they could do... More

We decided to go to the Canterbury Tales experience because the cathedral was really expensive and I'm so glad we did. The tickets were around £9 each which is reasonable and you are handed an audio guide type receiver thing which talks to you. There is an actor that takes you into the first scene and introduces you to the... More

Last time I visited this attraction was 1989 when I first moved to the area, as weather was not great decided to go again, not a lot has changed but it does not look as tired as I thought it would be. I would recommend this as a but of fun for an hour if the weather is bad.

The site uses canned audio and primitive animatronics to relate a few of the most famous tales. To be honest, the audio quality is such that I'm not sure that I would have been able to follow the plots if I hadn't already known the stories well, so maybe ask what stories are included and do a quick Google search... The idea of this is really good and overall is an excellent introduction to The Canterbury Tales. Rating it as 'average' is possibly a little unfair as I actually enjoyed the experience, however, it's quite tired looking; and some of the props could do with updating so it doesn't score a 'very good' either. I would recommend a visit but... More
