As first time visitors to Canterbury, we were drawn into the Lilford Gallery by the amazing shop display. David, the Gallery Director, was a wealth of knowledge, and happily talked us through his collection. Our favourite pieces included David Begbies body sculptures and the tapestry by Grayson Perry - there was such an amazing array of artists. If you get the chance, it’s well worth a visit to the Gallery, and currently there is a VR experience by Carne Griffiths which is well worth experiencing!

Fell across the Lilford Gallery, Canterbury whilst visiting the city in March. What a brilliant place. It is so refreshing and exciting to wander around a gallery which has so diverse a collection of artistic styles and with so many eminent artists displaying.
The young lady who talked to us about the work a was really welcoming and spent a great deal of time talking through some of the pieces which interested us.
The owner was a real enthusiast and was fascinating to listen to.
It was certainly one of the highlights of our visit to Canterbury and is very well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity.

Having been to both galleries on an occasional basis over the last couple of years. I spotted on line a picture I thought I might like to buy. They didn’t have it in either gallery because it was being shown elsewhere however they offered to get it in ASAP. They kept me up to date on when it would be in and we visited on Saturday to have a look at it. I wanted to see it in and out of the frame which they happily actioed whilst we grabbed a coffee.
Even more impressed with the picture now I have it home than I was in the gallery. Great gallery, great staff, good communication. Highly recommended.

I've purchased artworks from the Folkestone branch of this gallery and been very pleased with the service.
Unfortunately, at this branch, a rather pompous man seems to decide if you are worthy of his attention or not. Pity really, because this attitude most certainly lost them a sale.

Hi Susan, I'm very sorry that you felt I didn't want to give you time... I can only say that you must have caught me on a very bad day, most people would say I'm easy to talk to. Anyway, obviously not on this occasion. My apologies again. David

Just strolling past, took the opportunity to go in and look around. Some interesting art and well worth popping in to have a look.

Lilford Gallery has a branch and a framers in Folkestone but its Canterbury gallery is the heart of its business. And a more eclectic range of modern art would be difficult to imagine with the odd David Hockney and Peter Blake print, contemporary sculpture, urban grime smut and filth, Damien Hirst spots, Anita Klein self-indulgences, drawings by the late punkster Ian Dury, even the occasional Salvador Dali lithograph. It’s spread over two floors both feeling like something of a stage set. All that’s missing is a grand piano and a nightly cabaret show.

I believe this gallery has two locations in Canterbury and we seemed to find and buy in both locations. Most of the art is local and in my mind very reasonable. If you are a tourist they are great locations for a meaningful reminder. If you are a local, god bless you for there are larger works that will probably find their way to your house.

We visited the gallery on a whim but ended up buying from here. We found the people approachable and friendly and they had a large selection of pictures for sale. Will be visiting again. Can highly recommend them.

Loved the modern contemporary presentation throughout this gallery. The art work is thoughtfully and meticulously placed to accentuate each individual piece. This place struck me particularly with the history behind the Lilford family. I was hoping to meet the owner to see if he knew much of the history and also hoping to get a chance on our stay to view Lilford Hall, which I'm hoping to do on my next visit. Lovely, friendly atmosphere.

A fantastic commercial art gallery and easily the best in Canterbury. They have work by emerging artists and by well-known established artists which results in a very interesting mix of styles. Highly recommended!
