As other reviewers have suggested, it's best to sit towards the middle/front of the auditorium as the screen is not particularly large. Other than that, the cinema has a good selection of films - I usually go here for independent/foreign films - friendly staff and adequate seating. Films often have a talk before/after by uni lecturers which are free to... More

This is a great cinema. Fabulous prices and lots of refreshment offers. The only negative I took was that for an incredibly wide auditorium, the screen was not. The two aisle sides are a bit too far out to really feel a part of the film. I would still continue to visit though.

Hi and thanks for leaving your review. I am really glad that you enjoy coming here - we've had a really busy 'Oscar season' so far. We do have a big auditorium (300 seats) and although you can see and hear the film from all seats, you are right that you get a better view further back and/or nearer the... More

I love this place - I practically live here. Great films, often with visiting lecturers to talk about the film, or a discussion afterwards. Eclectic collection of films from mainstream ones now off the circuit, to international films. Friendly, relaxed, comfortable and you can take drinks in. Increasingly popular, and in my opinion, vastly superior (and cheaper) than the Canterbury... More

Although the Gulbenkian Cinema/Theatre is part of the University of Kent in Canterbury, it is open to all. Smaller than most, it has steeply (in comparison) raked seating affording an excellent view. Prices are very reasonable & some of the films are shown here very early in the release programme. Well worth a visit.

I recently watched a film at the Gulbenkian cinema with my Dad & teenage sister & was really impressed. We don't live far away but have never been there before though I'm sure we will visit again. They show films which would never be shown at the likes of Cineworld (we saw Wild Tales which was brilliant!) & the prices... More

I go here to see films that'll never get shown at Canterbury's main cinema, a horrible Odeon. For example, Pride and Spirit of '45; classic lefty / student fare.

Conveniently Situated on the university campus, out of town, this Cinema is happy to include films that the big name cinemas would often shun. A printed independent review of each film is available FOC before each performance starts which can give helpful additional insight to a complex plot line. Seats are comfortable, and well tiered, meaning usually your view is... More

The Gulbenkian is great, and has a range of interesting non-mainstream events. Finding it is thte challenge... If you have a degree in orienteering, or are a student of the university, you'll be fine. Otherwise you'll find that the road signs run out a mile or so before you get there, & the Gulbenkian is squirelled away on the university... More

Does a nice selection of snacks and drinks, perfect for between lectures and the cafe layout makes it great for meeting friends. Service is sometimes a bit slow and the price is definitely not suitable for a student budget but nice every once in a while
