Overview
More
Augustus Pugin - best known for designing most of the Houses of Parliament - radically reformed cityscapes around the world. Pugin built this church as his model of construction, and called it "my own child". Out of all the buildings he built, this was his favourite. St Augustine of Canterbury landed very close by in 597, bringing Christianity back to England. Although is original shrine was destroyed in 1538, St Augustine's is his modern shrine, and contains one of his last remaining relics. There are many things of beauty here, and of great significance too. Despite its stark exterior, the inside is peaceful, tranquil, and beautiful, with major stories to tell.

Yes, a beautiful church but now sadly incomplete as in the 1970s the monks from the adjacent monastery, in their infinite wisdom with the adoption of the new liturgical changes, allowed the removal of the Rood Screen from the Chancel to the Lady Chapel and...More

Pugin was an extraordinary man with a vision and nowhere is this more clear than in his ambitious project the Shrine of St. Augustine. It is worth seeing for the stained glass windows alone. A must when visiting Ramsgate.

A very beautiful almost minature cathedral. The stations of the cross are some of the most interesting i have seen. The guide was very knowledgeable and brought the place to life. Can't believe it is less than 200 years old it looks mediaeval.
