Most of the walk we did took place on bridle paths, quite a bit of which were slate pieces underfoot. As the weather was typical for “The Lakes” ie heavy rain, the paths were like streams, so apart from the odd muddy patch, we were...More

Last time I was in Ambleside we got told about this route but we never managed to get round to it, last weekend I took mum to Ambleside and mentioned it to her, not knowing how tiring it actually was. I said to her that...More

We walked here from where we were staying in Waterhead as it's part of a nice circular route that heads up to Wansfell Pike, which is definitely worth doing! Jenkin Crag offers a nice view of Lake Windermere! Bring good footwear are the path can...More

Stunning views over the lake and to the hills in the distance. Not suitable for people with mobility issues, lots of tree roots and rocks.

A short steep walk out of Ambleside with some good views across Windermere when you get there. The signs can be a bit confusing and it is easy to wander off the main track and get into the paths in the woods. Best done as...More

I did this as part of a circular walk from Ambleside (going via Wansfell Pike) and whilst Jenkin Crag is ok, it is not as high (so doesn't give many good views). I'd suggest exerting yourseld and going to Wansell Pike.

Parking at Waterhead, this was a fabulous walk with lovely views of Lake Windermere and taking in some of the 'tall trees'. Not a difficult walk so pretty accessible to most people.

We took the path from Waterhead up to Jenkins Crag, it's quite steep at first but levels off. Being first time walkers we chose something easy and the walk up was not too bad. Initially due to looking at the path and not wanting to...More

We stop to take in the views at Jenkins Crag on our walk from Ambleside to Troutbeck. The views are truly spectacular, taking in much of Lake Windermere from high above, this is well worth the walk. You can take the steps up from the...More

I happened upon Jenkin Crag during a visit to Stagshaw Gardens. The map at the entrance showed a path heading up to Jenkin Crag and I decided to give it a try. The walk wasn't far, and although a little steep, it wasn't unmanageable. The...More

Just below Ambleside (south) Lowfold Car Park, there are some free spaces at the back, there is a signpost off Old Lake Rd for Wansfell, Jenkin's Crag.
