Stunning Tarn Hows offers an accessible circular (1¾ miles) walk through beautiful countryside with majestic mountain views. A great place to walk and picnic, or to begin your wider Lake District countryside adventure. There are also rare Belted Galloway cattle and sturdy Herdwick sheep grazing by the tarn. There is a mobility scooter available for use for those who are less able to get around the Tarn.

A beautiful place that is easy to get to with good parking. Great views and options to go off the beaten track.

Beautiful area but very busy and feels like a park rather than countryside. You certainly don't feel like you're in the middle of nowhere as you do in many other parts off the lake district. Very good for those needing a well made path for...More

We wanted to do the full walk from Coniston but unfortunately the rain stopped that from being feasible but we still got a good couple of hours walk that while being slightly challenging was dog (husky) friendly and took us past some really breathtaking sights...More

A must do if you ever visit the Lakes. We stayed in Bowness on Windermere which was around a 35 minute drive not far from Coniston. We planned to go and see the Tom Gill Waterfalls beforehand, so we parked at Glen Mary Bridge. Parking...More

We took a slow walk round this beautiful location. Nothing strenuous here on even pathways, the dogs had a nice time too. We were lucky with the weather as it was clear and sunny and the views were simply stunning.

This is a stunning place to walk around and catch a quiet moment on your own, a wonderful area for views. Parking is not so great as it gets very busy.

The walk around Tarn Howes takes about an hour. The path is very good and there's plenty of parking. If you have a car suggest you take the ferry across Windermere to Hawkeshead. There are some nice pubs and cafes. From... More
