Lovely walk with very steep climbing areas. View from the top is worth the effort. Visit the "lion and the lamb" and the "howitzer" - the areas of rock at the top of the hill - small hill but tricky and still has a wow factor.

Children and adults alike will love this small mountain. It's a steep but quick climb with excellent views over grasmere and the surrounding fells. A real sense of achievement and costs nothing.

We walked all the way round the ridge via Easdale Tarn and Sargeant Man and Calf Crag. Very steep climb - not for the feint hearted!

From Grasmere the walk leaves up Easedale Lane at the Nthn end of Grasmere village. Follow the trail, it's well sign posted. To make this easier spend a few pound on a walking map from a local shop. Back to the walk, it is challenging in places and a bit rocky but well worth the effort and view. Some tips... More

Walked to top of Helm Crag easy route views stunning on top, clear sunny day, able to see windermere. Continued to Calf Crag long walk lost the path part way got into boggy ground - not the only walkers seeking directions. Came down the easdale gill steep and rocky in parts very hot in the valley. Take plenty of drinks... More

Many different routes to go up so suitable for varying abilities. This year we opted for the straight up version which was tough as it was a very hot sunny day (yes these do happen in the Lakes) but boy was it worth it. The views from the top are amazing

Helm crag is easily accessible for active children, its quite steep in places but generally the path zigzags across the contours and doesn't take long to reach the summit also known as the Lion and the Lamb, its a good classic walk and can be done before dinner.

Two adults on the wrong side of 50 and kids in early teens. General lack of exercise prior to holiday and we still managed to have a great walk with spectacular views. An accessible 3hr round trip walk from and back to Grasmere, plenty of places to pause and gather your composure. Real Lake District walking for the fitness impaired.

A perfect summers day and a perfect walk recommended by friends who know the fells inside out. Suited our group of parents and teenagers really well and although it was a bank holiday Monday never felt too crowded. We continued along the ridge to the other crags and then dropped down at the apex of the valley for the long... More
