Though steep, most of the ascent is paved with steps and stones, making it a manageable, if arduous, climb, providing a magnificent view of Grasmere and further afield.

Unfortunately it rained very heavily on our walk making the scrambling part of the walk quite slippery. The views were amazing despite the rain obscuring them somewhat. I hope to return in better weather. It is a short walk from the hostel and reasonably sign...More

This is, of course, such a well known and iconic walk. The rewards for the climb from Grasmere are some scintillating views in all directions. The famous Lion and the Lamb formation always intrigues me! After so many visits, I still can't see it!

Worth a half day walk up to Helm Crag. Easy from Grasmere and a good path. Extend the walk by doing the ridge to Calf Crag or even round to Steel Fell which has a lovley way off to Grasmere.
