Overview
More
Hill Top was Beatrix Potter's most beloved place, packed full of her favourite things and left just as she wanted it for visitors to enjoy. You will see why she loved it so much and used it and the surrounding countryside as inspiration for many of her famous children's tales. Your visit helps the National Trust continue her work to look after the Lake District.

I took a group of 13 pensioners to visit this one time home of Beatrix Potter. The house itself is charming and it is possible to imagine her writing her books in the room with daylight flooding in. The house is small and gets very...More

This another place in the Lake District that imwould strongly suggest you visit if you are in the area. The cottage has been preserved exactly how not was when she lived there and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful.

I was doing a circular walk from Ash Landing and passed Hill Top en-route so decided to pop in. I found it very interesting and the house wasn't too crowded due to the timed ticket system. i was surprised more people didn't walk around the...More

Beautiful and we loved this. Really worth a visit if you are familiar with Beatrix Potter's works or not.

Expected a bit more than what I saw at the hill top. The exhibits and explanations were brief. Some interesting displays particularly if you are a Peter rabbit fan. Directions need to improve.

This is a lovely National Trust house and we were lucky to find parking nearby. We were allowed in in 15 minute intervals and not rushed through. I could imagine that Beatrix Potter must have been happy here. It has a nice atmosphere and a...More

A group of seven of us drove a long way to Hill Top. There are not many signs along the way to reassure you that you are going in the right direction. Sawrey is a lovely little village that copes well with the obvious crowds...More

We used our national trust passes and therefore did not have to pay entry fee. The house is very quaint and full of interesting artefacts - it almost feels like Beatrix still lives there! Great experience to see where she lived and found her inspiration...More

My wife and I visited here by interrupting our journey to the hotel in Ambleside as we were too early to check in. We are members of the National Trust (NT) so entry was free. The entry tickets are obtained from a small building adjacent...More

Informative visit. Enjoyed by the children (9 & 12) and adults. Friendly staff. Little quiz for kids to complete in the garden. Nice to see some of the views depicted in BP books. Good use of our NT membership but would have paid the price...More

Sorry can’t give the info you want, as we were there in late season, and there were quite a few cars / people there, at that time although not overly busy. Check that the ferry is running if you are crossing from Bowness on... More
