We stopped in Kendal for the morning. some parking areas are free on Sunday and we parked at the parish church. A nice walk up to the castle with our dog. Views very good from the top.

As I live below the castle, I venture up here quite often, whether on my nightly jogs or throughout the day to take photographs. The walk up is steep for a short while, and can be very muddy and slippery in wet weather, so bring the appropriate footwear. However, once you're at the top and in the castle grounds, it's... More

I visited the Castle last week and really enjoyed the picturesque views from the top. I travelled up following the signs from a bridge, along a small park and passed a graveyard... This route was okay at first until we realised after that we had to walk up a very steep hill which was very muddy and slippery...Walking boots are... More

I attended Kendal Castle with my girlfriend in February 2017. We parked up following the sparse directions and parked up on the road next to it. We started to walk up the hill and a lot of rain had fallen the last few days which made it nearly impossible to get up, after numerous near slips I resorted to getting... More

Make sure you've good footwear - even though it's on top of a hill the water table is very high and the ground is very heavy. Great views though.

The views are nice but it's literally a few stones poorly built . Took the kids up on a half term trip to Kendal as I visited in December so we walked up here and truly regret it . The castle is dangerous and I was worried my kids would fall . The climb to the castle is very steep... More

Still amazing view over Kendal. Been here twenty years ago and was great to come back. I would have liked to have something to hold on to while climbing up, though. Was very muddy and a bit slippery, so make sure you are wearing boots or go on a dry day.

The views of Kendal from the castle are amazing and the children had a great time exploring. The weather was great and this made the day great fun.

This walk is amazing since it offers a differing set of rewards upon every visit. Try the approach from Castle Estate - if you're up for a 'Heart-Building' Challenge. Other than that, the gentle amble from Castle Road, nearer to Castle Street could provide a more relaxed climb. Once on top, view the 360 degree views...then descend towards the west,... More
