You can park here and walk down to and even around Derwent Water, you can also park here and walk up and around to Walla Crag, almost directly above the carpark. Mostly quiet and easy to access, but take your boots as it can be...More

If you are a NT member you can park up for free and easily visit the lakeside rather than pay extortionate amount to park in the towns. Great views.

We approached the wood from Ambleside road via Spring road. Pleasant walk through woods next to a river along a reasonable path which rises gradually. Lots of options when you get further up including a tour of the stone circle, the great wood itself or...More

We loved the peace and quiet in this wood. A great place to walk up to Walla Crag or to Ashness Bridge. Two years ago we saw a red squirrel, last year a roe deer, this year we saw and heard treecreepers. The autumn colours...More
