At Jewry Wall Museum you can discover the archaeology of Leicester's past and find out about the people of Leicester from prehistoric times to the medieval period. A special display on the history of archaeology in Leicester, 'Archaeology and Endeavour' explains why our city has such rich and interesting museum collections and includes a stunning display of extremely rare medieval glass from Wygston's House. The museum grounds contain one of Leicester's most famous landmarks, the Jewry Wall, part of the Roman town's public baths. It is one of the tallest surviving pieces of Roman masonry in the country. The celebration of Leicester's Roman history continues inside the museum, with stunning collections including detailed mosaics, intricate painted wall plaster and a beautiful Roman cavalry helmet cheekpiece. Complementing our Roman archaeology collections, there are fascinating artefacts from other eras. From ancient stone tools to striking medieval decorated tiles from Leicester Abbey, there's something to interest the whole family.

I love museums and the Jewry wall looks great but the museum just doesn't max out its potential. I was frankly disappointed.

This place has nothing to do with Jews! Apparently it's a misspelling of the Latin word "jury", as in a meeting place for a bunch of guys. It's actually an excavated Roman ruin, which a small and very well-done museum next to it. We loved...More

There were some interesting exhibits here, but it is a long walk from the center of town, so it is not worthwhile unless you happen to be nearby.

There are excellent Roman mosaic floors and interesting wall paintings (frescoes) but the display is tired and cluttered. Also has excavated remains of Roman baths. Well worth seeing. I enjoyed doing the jigsaws of the mosaics. It is also free!

Cities like York etc are famed for their ancient remains but the Jewry Wall is a Roman gem in the centre of Leicester that gets little publicity & deserves to be better known. Well worth a visit - reminds me of the Porta Negra in...More

we enjoyed our visit and our chat with the curator whose knowledge seemed exhaustive. Slightly put off by noisy school kids but they seemed to enjoy the activities

This place is a wealth of info and has a great collection of artefacts. It's obviously looking it's age and could do with some funding. Much like other small museums. Please visit and show your support. Sadly places like this are closing down far too...More

This museum has an impressive local archeological collection for a provincial municipal museum, mainly concerned with Leicester's Roman heritage. It is informative and has friendly and helpful staff. On the down side, the building itself is a post WWII monstrosity which perhaps represents the architectural...More

Thanks for your interest. No its free admission for a general visit, no ticket required. We do have an events programme which have a small charge but for a general visit, please just come on the day! All best wishes, James
