Or take your bike and a picnic. So much to explore. Lakes, walks in the woods. Go and visit the mammoth on the top of the hill, stop off at the white horse or the Hope and Anchor pubs for a meal or a drink depending which way you go. Miles and miles of beautiful woodland and walks. Bird watch... More

There have been several prehistoric remains found in these flooded gravel pits. The area has been carefully turned into a park by Leicestershire County Council. There are car parks around the edges. Excellent for walkers and cyclists, dog walking. Well sign posted, mostly flat. Some fishing, not suitable for swimming. Great route out of Leicester City, past Abbey Park, Space... More

Watermead park is a lovely place to go either alone or with your family. The walk around the lake can be completed at a leisurely pace in an hour. Great for biking too. My children love the ducks and swans there.

This is a park comprised of a number of ponds and lakes, with tarmac paths around them, and some dirt paths, with the River Soar winding through. It is accessible to all, without steps or hills, many dog walkers use it, as can cyclists, walkers and fishers. It is also an excellent place for birdwatching. I am a regular visitor,... More

A great city resource offering access for all. A haven for wildlife and birds - ever changing habitats; an environmental triumph! There are rocks to climb on and paths that weave in and out around a series of beautiful lakes. The walks are dog and chad friendly. Easy to navigate paths for buggies, wheelchairs and small kids on scooters. BEWARE... More

Lovely for family's with children and dogs of cause. You can walk through the park by the lakes or on the towpath by the river soar. We walk through the park to the Hope and Anchor pub. Or you can get to Birstall. No muddy paths so a good all year rounder.

Very nice park but it really needs a café! We cycle there from home & are well ready for a coffee when we get there.

Had a couple of hours walking around the pools at watermead. The car park was free which was a bonus.the only downside was there was no cafe to grab a drink after all the walking. nice place to visit.

Surrounded on all sides by urban development, Watermead Country Park is an oasis of tranquillity. With wildlife in abundance, green foliage and expanses of water in a variety of differing sized lakes it offers a pleasant place to visit. And to top it off, King Lear's Lake. Do his remains really lie beneath?
