It's not that the Belgrave Road, or Golden Mile as it's more commonly know, is a particularly bad place. But it's remarkably average considering the reviews it gets. Many people have only ever visited for Diwali, meaning that they have seen the very (and I do mean very) best the Belgrave Road has to offer. At the end of the... More

Went along on Sunday early evening for the Diwali celebrations. Very very busy but we had a great time wandering into lots of shops and food places. Most of the food and sweet stores were queued out but we managed to try quite a few different things. We headed round to the park for the Fireworks display and watched dancing... More

We took a trip along the Golden Mile to see the Diwali lights and visit the big wheel that's there for the festival this week, it's lovely to go in the evening during the Festival of Lights, the shops are open and the streets are filled with families enjoying Diwali and soaking up the atmosphere, the lights are so pretty... Was great to take a stroll along the golden mile. Great fashions and jewellery shops. Was all decorated for the festival of light when we visited. Shop keepers so friendly, helpful and informative. Didn't seem a long distance to walk back to the town and crossing all across the roads. Short bus journey from the bus station about 4 stops.... More

The vibrancy of the shopping centre is worth a visit, but it is often polluted with traffic, and dirty. It's a shame really, because with a little effort this could be one of then jewels of Leicester.

I remember Belgrave Road as a wonderful, colourful, vibrant road which was the gateway into Leicester. We drove down there today planning to visit some shops but it was so rundown and dingy that we didn't bother. 15 and 20 years ago I bought food, spices and herbs, sweets, cookware and fresh vegetables and could spend the whole day wandering... I visited this road properly after many years and I am really impressed with the quality and variety of saree shops and food outlets. I needed to buy some Indian clothes promptly for a wedding, I managed to get beautiful sprees and outfits, jewellery to match as well as a drop in at the beautician and a bite to eat.... More

Well it's just another busy high street. its just that this one is full of asian/indian shops, eateries, retail outlets. The prices are keen compared to say Southall in London but the competition is fierce too. My wife took advantage of the prices and indian clothes on sale and some of the shops were happy for a little light banter... More

Take a walk along this Asian road. All nationalities living in harmony and wonderful shops selling gold and the most beautiful saris. Good restaurants too. Come for Diwali in October/November. The best lights outside of the Asian continent.
