- PQBHolmes Chapel, United Kingdom495 contributionsDefinitely improvedFew years since we were here but there’s definitely big improvement. Last time, there were lots of empty units & very little atmosphere. This time, it was busy with lots of people enjoying food & drinks outside & inside the various cafes & restaurants & lots of visitors soaking up the atmosphere. Definitely a buzz about the place. Great to see.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 September 2023
- TWal1Canberra, Australia2,944 contributionsCentral Location - Much To DoThe Royal Albert Dock is the heart of Liverpool’s waterfront and is home to museums, restaurants, bars and cafes. It has a great vibe and can get very busy. If you are looking to dine around here, then reservations are recommended. We enjoyed visiting the various museums and there are plenty to choose from pop music, social history to modern art. Something for everyone.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 October 2023
- Mark ALiverpool, United Kingdom3 contributionsGive yourselves time, so much hereSo much to do here, we didn’t imagine we’d be here all day. Great Tate gallery, interesting pieces, always a conversation starter. Nice cafes and restaurants, then of course the museums are so worth it, got carried away ready every bit of info around the Titanic museum. Would recommend for all ages.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 19 November 2023
- nephronkingLiverpool, United Kingdom3,522 contributionsThe place to visit in LiverpoolSince living in Cheshire and Merseyside in 2002, you cannot not come here with the family and bring visitors to visit the most iconic area in Liverpool. Around the Royal Albert Dock there are more listed buildings only second to London. My favourite is the Liver building and the Cunard building part of the Three Graces a world heritage. The White star office Albion house now the Titanic hotel is one of 2 Titanic hotels in the city. The other one closer to the new Everton Football club stadium. The national museums close by and free to visit. The Beatles museum and the Beatles statues. The list is endless with some of the best bars and restaurants in town. You could dine in the boat. Memorial to the heroes of Titanic engine room. Waterfront pier head buildings. Liverpool city tours, boat trips and Beatles tour of city all start from here. And so on…Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 8 December 2023
- Richard BBelper, United Kingdom530 contributionsA Wonderful Lesson in Industrial History...Staying close to the Albert Dock, enjoyed a good walk around the area. A very impressive place steeped in history and architecture. The old buildings were incredible and it is wonderful how they have been transformed and rescued from dereliction. The Warfs and docks, will all the boats etc are fascinating. The Maritime Museum is worth a visit. Plenty of places to see, eat and drink along the way...Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 December 2023

- S CCheltenham, United Kingdom153 contributionsA right Royal review. This place is wonderful. So much to see and do. You will need to make several visits. The history is amazing, and it was nearly demolished!!!! Plenty of food and drink choices. Several museums too. This is a MUST visit if you come to Liverpool.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 January 2024
- Sam MWallasey, United Kingdom4 contributionsCharming Dock ExperienceThe blend of historic and modern elements creates a uniquely vibrant atmosphere, making it a must-visit. From fascinating museums to enticing eateries. However, my experience was slightly marred by a rather unfriendly interaction with a staff member at one of the shops, which felt out of place in such a welcoming environment. Despite this, I highly recommend a visit for a taste of Liverpool's.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 18 March 2024

Lovely buildings and statues. Amazed by all the locks on the chains around the edge of the dock area. History boards full of information. Watched some of the ferries on Mersey and it would be a lovely place to relax and watch world go by.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 30 April 2024

Every visit to Liverpool, I ensure that my hotel is either located on the docks or just a two minute walk away. You can feel the history of the docks as you walk around all the many cafes, restaurants and shops. The museums next to docks such as the Museum of Liverpool & the maritime museum (apart from the Tate) are free admission and inform you about the dock's history as well as the surrounding area. Beautiful place indeed. Highly recommend visiting in the morning after 10am as it is more peaceful :)

Couple of key hints:
1. Do not just come on a Monday; almost all free museums are closed.
2. Book in advance, stayed in a hotel in the Docks hut nowhere had capacity for a table for 2 after 7pm on a Sunday.
The Royal Albert Dock has been very well upgraded in recent years for tourists but this does not make it a place to avoid. History and contemporary cultures mix in one of the UK's top cities and will leave you wanting to come back. (On a day other than Monday!)

WHAT A PLACE, you must visit, something for everyone, great walks, beautiful scenery, fantastic museums ( they are all free too, bonus ) plenty of places to eat and drink for all budgets, even picnic areas for you to take your own. Had an amazing time spent a couple of wonderful days there. I have real difficulty in getting around due to my legs, but everywhere is accessible and user friendly. If you visit jump on the yellow explorer bus it takes you everywhere and so informative, the price is very reasonable and your ticket lasts 24 hrs, cannot go wrong.

Returning to normal ..... well about 50/50 is open after the Covid-19 lockdown. Still, there are plenty of eateries open and it was quiet for a midsummer Saturday afternoon. One thing though there was quite a queue for the loos as it seemed to be controlled (a one in one out kind of system). The Albert Dock is still a must see, must do on our great waterfront and when the galleries and museums open this coming week there should be a much wider choice of things to see, do, eat and drink.

The day we visited it was super windy and cold so we didn’t take the ferry trip. Wrapped up warm even though it was July and took a walk around. Always wanted to visit and glad that we have. Very overcast so we couldn’t see clear views across the river Mersey which was a shame but definitely could picture how lovely it would be on a nice day.

This dock has been totally revamped and includes the Tate Liverpool and The Beatles Story within. There are also many restaurants and shops to visit and it’s not far from the Museum of Liverpool (highly recommended) and Pier Head. Just be aware that the wind can blow around here so wrap up if the weather’s not so warm!

Been here a few times and there's alwayd somrthing new to do. When the sun is shining you can get some takeaway food and have a picnic on the grass overlooking the Mersey. There's little hidden eateries, an old bus that's converted into a cafe, donuts and candy floss plus it's where you can spot a bit of art or take a trip on the ferry unless like me you've never gained sea legs.

We first came to Liverpool in 1964 on our honeymoon. Travelling abroad in the 60s was unheard of! Therefore, we thoroughly enjoyed returning after so many years and found it much more lively. We stayed at the Premier Inn at the Albert Dock which is very central and within easy walking distance to the attractions, numerous shops, cafes and restaurants, which incidentally were all under cover so no chance of not enjoying surroundings in bad weather (or even hot weather!). The best attraction was of course "The Beatles Story" which is situated next to/and under the Premier Inn. We took the opportunity visiting at opening time and had the museum to ourselves so we could really take in all the pictures, photos and information available, much of which was unknown to us! We could not believe we had been in there nearly 2.1/2 hours!! We also took the coach on the Magical Mystery Tour which was fascinating and great to see where see where it all began. Thoroughly recommend and we will certainly be returning with other family members.

How long would you say is best to stay here for? Thanks
Written 19 September 2020
TBH we did not stay very long here, popped in for a coffee and admired the view and moved on as there were lots of other things to see in the area. There are some nice restaurants and shops only we just wanted drinks.
The shops and Pier Head are a short walk away from Royal Albert Dock including the ferry across the Mersey which was a lovely trip to look at the views from the water. Really enjoyed Liverpool as everything is walkable. Hope this helps. Look at my other reviews about Liverpool as just returned from there.

Is crabbing permitted on albert docks?
Written 11 April 2019
I wouldn’t of thought so, but maybe ask as has been suggested by Rande60.
We certainly didn’t see any fishing going on, it was way too windy, even for the hardiest of fishermen!!

What is the latest uptodate info (2019) about dogs being allowed onto the Albert Dock Site. A 2016 post complained about dogs not being allowed but the Albert Dock website today says "responsible dogs" are allowed. I thought we were all responsible dog owners !!
Written 5 April 2019
Yes you can take your dog along to the dock .But I'm not sure about the places to eat in there . So a packed lunch mite be a good idear

Yes, there is a costa , but also lots of other places to eat as well

I completely agree about parking charges. It is ÂŁ8.00 for three hours even for disabled parking which should be free. It is a great pity which takes the shine of visiting what is otherwise a great attraction. Come on Liverpool, some free parking please.
Written 6 April 2018
Yes very unfair in London I had to ÂŁ46 for 24 hours but agree that there should be free parking for the handicapped

Absolute rubbish. With the new building around it and record visits every day, it is hardly going to be demolished.
