Such an impressive place

The building and space is amazing and the displays are fantastic and free. We went to the Hockney and then wondered around through other galleries probably enjoying them better.

On our recent trip to London we visited the Tate Britain. It is a very large art gallery which is mostly free except for some special collections. The amount of paintings can be overwhelming so it is better to take shorter visits if possible.

Walked a fair distance to see the "queer art" exhibition at the Tate Britain then queued for nearly thirty minutes to get a ticket. Unfortunately the exhibition left a lot to be desired. It's spread out over several galleries when it could be condensed therefore making it way more interesting. Highlight was my £3.40 "concession" for being over 60.

Did not manage to get tickets for Hockney, but you can still visit the Hockney shop. Turner rooms are free as are a number of other of the galleries. Fun pop art through the ages rooms. Restaurant has been extended and now has out door space although shuts at 3pm. You can also do a circular walk across Vauxhall and... More

We arrived just before midday today, had a look at the Clore Gallery before out 13.00 entry to the Hockney exhibition. Been a while since I was at such a big exhibition but I wasn'y expecting a timed entry to be so crowded on entry. It was disapointing to feel so enclosed and found it difficult to see the pictures,... More

A massive collection of art and all for free as well. Many pictures of monarchs as this was the main way of recording before the advent of photography. Easy to get to from Pimlico Tube station.

A 5 minute walk from Pimlico tube, the majority of tge museum is free to wander around, it houses a collection covering 500 years of British art, the Turner rooms are excellent. They also have temporary exhibitions which are charged for right now its the Hockney which is very popular. The usual gift shops and cafe.

Well worth a visit. It's free, sure why not! Interesting to walk through. I enjoyed it. Since its so big the crowds are dispersed easily too so you don't get that cramped feeling.

Ordered ticket online and collected at the gallery. Really enjoyed exhibition. Was busy but not so you couldn't see the work. Nice free little guide book. Beautiful paintings. Cafe so busy the queue was massive.

Visited for the Hockney Exhibition which we found very crowded and in many cases we were unable to get near the art work to be able to see it. We also visited some of the other galleries of which there were plenty. The cafe served good quality food and even at the busy times there was enough seating.
