This is a beautiful cemetery well worth a visit. I wandered around for over an hour. There are many well-maintained paths as well as some that are a bit more overgrown. There are many interesting pieces of history here, including the grave of Karl Marx....More

Just a short walk up a hill and through a park, Highgate offers unique photographic opportunities as you wander through a Gothic cemetery with Celtic crosses, angelic tombstones and overgrown greenery. Not many famous people her, aside from Karl Marx and George (who is not...More

I'll start with this preface: I am a huge fan of graveyards and cemeteries. I am fascinated by funeral statuary and art. So my review *may* be a little skewed. Having said that... This was a bucket list visit for me. I read about Highgate...More

I had this recommended to me, and I'm glad we went. We took a tour (has to be and reservations are needed) of the Westgate. Eastgate can be seen by yourself. The history was so fascinating. If there's a particular person buried there that you...More

My mother had visited before and highly recommended visiting again, so we did. I found it so beautiful. I didn't mind having to pay an entrance fee. I adored that nature was allowed to take its course. In some parts completely taking over. Some graves...More

A day out looking for history. The cemetery is easy to get to, we walked through a pretty park to get there from the tube. The tour of the west side was informative and struck a nice balance between respectful and informative. Some great facts...More

Brilliant place to visit on a tour with so much history. The tours are great in the summer. So much Victorian achitecture to see, plus really nice views into how the monuments have aged including seeing tree and weeks growing through the abandoned parts. The...More

The guided tour of the East Cemetery is fascinating. The tours are well run by knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers. The catacombs still gives me the creep. The highlight of the West Cemetery is Karl Marx's Tomb. A bizarre and probably a morbid outing but well...More

I will be going on the guided tour in the morning and having a look around the other cemetery in the afternoon. Is there somewhere handy to get a cup of tea and a sandwich? Thanks!

Hello Although there is often (usually weekends) a coffee cart outside the cemetery, we would recommend that you go up to Highgate Village, or down to the bottom of Swains Lane (about 10 minutes either way), where there are... More

Hello am I right in understanding that the £12 for the West cemetery tour also includes the entrance for the East cemetery? Are there bathroom facilities in the Cemeteries / ticket areas?
