The Sherlock Holmes pub is in a great location and they've got a great choice of ales but the toilets let this place down. The whole bar smells like a toilet! The actual toilets are unbearable.

Busy pub - some Sherlock Holmes memorabilia- good range of beers on tap- not always much room to sit- restaurant upstairs- food available on either floor- based between Embankment and Trafalgar Square- very pleasant staff

Good food, good atmosphere. Interesting memorabilia, although not the original location or items from the Sherlock Holmes museum. The name of the pub would suggest some cross over to the menu as the location and items have no real connection to Sherlock Holmes, but there is none..? Still a great place for a reasonably priced meal.

I arrived with back pain but I sincerely believe I was polite and tolerant. We'd come all the way from Prague with a twice confirmed booking. On arrival we were told people were lingering at our allotted table. It happens, so I suggested they sit us somewhere and get us drinks while they sort things. Fifteen minutes in and we... More

The food was great, the waitresses are nice and kind, and the mood is really good. The interior is like you are sitting in one of Sherlocks room.

Well sure it's touristy. But it's in a neat old building with lots of character, the location is great, just a short walk from Trafalgar Square, and it's actually got a good selection of beers & ales. The surprise here is the food, it's really quite decent. If you're visiting London for the first time, this place is well worth... More

The name was too magnetic to avoid a pie and a beer here. Everything was good, the place is nice but nothing more or different from any other pub (except for Sherlock and Watson's draft beers!). I got a Shin of Beef & Ale Pie and a Watson draft, and both were a good choice. Price is average (to be... More

Was here years ago, and first place I revisited when I came back. Very close to Trafalgar Square. Started to get crowded with locals about 4pm, so it was good we got there before then. Gotta have a pint (or two) of Guinness and the Fish & Chips board. The decor and atmosphere are pure English pub -- great place... More

An old-fashioned pub with nooks & crannies, it is perfect for tourists who want to experience this part of the British Culture, and the name alludes to that being instantly recognisable as part of our literary history. Essentially a themed pub, but not in a tacky way. Good selection of spirits, mostly an ale pub, but a few foreign lagers.... More

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighbourhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
