One of my favourite London walks. So much to see and do. Perfect for all the family including:Southwark Cathedral; Golden Hind; The Globe Theatre; The Clink; Tate Modern; Millennium Bridge and over to St Paul's Cathedral. You could spend all day in the area. Lots of reasonably priced places to eat and get refreshments. Use the buses to get around... More

Bankside is the southern part of the Thames stretching between the Blackfriars bridge walking west towards London Bridge and although it could be rather busy at the weekend on a warm day, it is still busy with tourists on a daily basis. Lots of kids running with their bikes, skates etc, people doing cons or simply beggging or artists doing... More

The southern bank of the Thames, between Blackfriars and London Bridge is a part of Southwark district, which name came from the medieval expression “the Banke syde” which means “street along the bank of the river Thames”. It is a rapidly developing area, with many interesting venues and a great walk along the river.

I love this area of London , there is so much to see and do, the modern mixes in with the old. I love going to see plays at Shakespeare's Globe, love grabbing something to eat at Borough Market and simply strolling along the river bank.

This has to be one of my favourite parts of London. There's so much to do here, you could actually spend an entire day here. Go to the Tate Modern or Shakespeare's Globe. Take a walk along the river Thames or enjoy a drink at one of the very English pubs there. And when you're done, enjoy a walk across... More

Bankside held the surprise of a Christmas market with the back drop of the new and the old - city hall and London bridge. An array of food was on offer along with a range of markets stalls offering their wares. The walk was engaging and is on offer any time of the year.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
