Convenient location in Picadilly. An extensive collection, interestingly arranged. Extremely helpful, pleasant, and knowledgeable staff. I asked about a hard-to-find book I'd looked for in three countries. Hatchard's had it. What more could a customer need?

If you are looking for a signed copy of books you have to drop in to Htachards. A beautiful place with more than enough choice of books in many a field. The Art book section is extremely good.

London's oldest book shop, founded in 1797, was a must visit for me as both a book lover & librarian. More so, as someone tasked with buying a laundry list of Christmas gifts for young nieces & nephews with an English flavor. The store has an impressive inventory & like many, has a fairly regular schedule of events & signings,... More

In London you are bound to encounter establishments that have been around awhile, like Hatchards Booksellers on Piccadilly from 1797. They keep well up with the times and I found the latest works from several of my favourite authors, William Gibson, Douglas Kennedy and Ruth Rendell (unfortunately the last). The shop on three floors is nicely compact and I could... More

I regularly go here when in London because of the wonderful selection of books. Plenty of Jaeger chain bookstores around but Hatchards retains the charm of a smaller, family owned store. Staff are very attentive and the quality and selection of books outstanding.

This is a truly amazing bookshop with a wonderful history section. It's also great for religious studies, fiction and art.

Whilst a lovely respite from the hordes of Piccadilly, their ill-conceived venture into dealing (rarities, 1st editions etc) has been compromised by a moribund back-office accounting department that is incapable of paying their invoices. Collector's please go elsewhere. Hatchard's is pleased to take your volumes but you won't see a pound, Euro or otherwise for months! if ever!!

This is a mandatory stop for anyone who loves reading. There must be a reason Hatchard's has been so successful for over two centuries. The shop is an easy stroll up Piccadilly from Piccadilly Circus. I have to confess having spent more than an hour or two perusing the superb history and biography sections. Every square inch has been given... More

I visit this shop every chance I get. The selection is incredible and the atmosphere here is one of tradition and respect/love of books. There special selections on display change frequently and they often sell signed copies of newer books. Browsing in this bookstore is one of my favorite pass times when I visit London.

This is a charming old book store right in the heart of Piccadilly. It is much smaller than the Waterstones Piccadilly branch, but this works to its advantage as it offers a more carefully chosen selection of books, as opposed to stocking everything which may be of variable quality. There history section is particularly impressive

Staying in Mayfair

Neighbourhood Profile
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
