Quick drink with friends

First pub we visited on a trip to London with friends. Nice little place, good vibe and friendly service - only stayed for one drink but food looked nice too.

Considering this is a Thames side pub, the food is not bad at all. We went for a Christmas work meal and pre reserved a table. The beef pie was tasty. The service was a little disappointing at times. One pie, the chicken and chorizo, came long after the others so we couldn't all enjoy our food together. When we... More

"A pint of Barnsley Gold and a Rev James, please." "£9.60, mate." Two bitters for the best part of a tenner? Jesus wept.

The location and atmosphere of this pub was great, and a good selection of beers/drinks. The place is clean anf warm. Food however was a bit of a mixed bag- my sister ordered a Hunter's Chicken (~£10.50), while I went for the main meal sized Macaroni Cheese (~£9.70). Based on past experiences at Nicholsons pubs, and the comparable prices, I... More

Total joke of a pub turned up at 10:20 on a Tuesday night and was told they were no longer serving staff all have an attitude ... Why shut early ? You advertise that your open till 11pm there were at least 30 people in the bar!?!

Stopped in with the family for a rest and a drink, but stayed when we saw the food. Very good and we really enjoyed the atmosphere.

Such a great escape for me and my friend after work. Great selection on beer, ale, spirits and wine. I'd say no one is treated as a customer... Most likely a guest. Wonderful, friendly service, amazing food. We'll definitely be coming back and I'd recommend it to locals and tourists! Thank you to the whole team and manager Jim. You... More

Down steep flight of steps on the right not long after you come off London Bridge. Have been here early to mid evening on a work night. Always some suits on the pavement. Can usually get served at the bar fairly quickly. Reasonable range of ales. Less fuss than the big pub back up on the main road.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
