Description:

The Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell proudly tells the story of the city...

The Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell proudly tells the story of the city and its people. The museum is now fully accessible and refurbished after a £1.5m redevelopment project. Come pay us a visit! The ancient building is packed full of collections and displays, with lots to enjoy by all the family. Highlights include the last surviving Jacquard loom in the city, fully restored to full working order, a recreated chemist shop, countless fantastic shoes, as well as engineering marvels, such as the world's first wire netting machine. Catch a film in our mini cinema, relax in the 1950s living room or listen to local people sharing their memories of the city. Find us in the heart of the charming Norwich Lanes area. We would love to welcome you to this unique museum.

The Bridewell Museum, now the Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell, is now a most interesting museum since the refurbishment of a few years ago. The old Colman's fire engine now greets tourists at the entrance. Various trades of Norwich past such as: the replica pharmacist, the shoe trade rooms and the Norwich City room, are just three of many... More

Visited today drawn by the new Norwich during WW2 exhibition with a grandma who lived through it, an 8 year old and a 13 year old (along with 41 year old me) all Norwich born and bred. Spent over 2 hours wandering around going back in time through the rich history of Norwich. Always find something we didn't know about... More

Visited with family. Very interesting and good museum. Little bits for young children to partake in such as hat dress up which went down well. A craft event was taking place which was good and kept kids entertained. Lots of good and interesting information we all learnt lots about the history of Norwich would recommend and would return again

This is a lovely little museum worth an amble for visitors to the city or those that live in Norwich. There are some interactive exhibits with activities and things to try on for kids. You are positively encouraged to open draws to find more. It explains the trades that arose in the city from textiles to shoes to mustard to... More

took my Nan to visit the museum, neither of us had visited before, we both found it really interesting & good value for money, definitely open the drawers, we loved some of the items in there, only down side was that in the ground floor the lighting was very low so my Nan struggled to read the information boards

We spent a good two hours here, so much to see. Don't miss the visit to the undercroft and the flint wall. The shoe industry, the chocolate connection, the weaving trade - fascinating. Well worth a visit.

We loved our visit to the Bridewell. The exhibits were well researched and very detailed. The layout was fantastic and allowed you to soak everything up, enriching your knowledge as you walked. The atmosphere was good and, while the museum was busy, we didn't feel crowded and there were no distractions from unruly children whatsoever. The museum is ideally situated... More
