Experience the threat of nuclear war at York Cold War Bunker! On a fascinating guided tour, learn how volunteers would have played a vital role in ensuring that Britain could survive a nuclear attack. The atmospheric 1960s semi-subterranean bunker is just as it was when stood down in 1991, and the one hour guided tour is enhanced by a short film. Summer opening (25th March - October 31st): Wednesday - Sunday, plus bank holidays, between 10am and 6pm. Entrance by guided tour only, at the following times: 10:00, 11:15. 11:45, 13:00, 14:15, 15:30, 16:45.

This is a very interesting spot for peeps interested in anything from the cold war. Located in the middle of a residential estate that obviously grew up round the bunker, even finding the place is fun. The staff were super friendly & welcoming, and happily shared their stories and knowlidge on the exhibits. Its not the largest bunker, Ive visited... More

My girlfriend and I came to visit the bunker quite spontaneously and it turned out to be a very interesting couple of hours. It was just myself, my girlfriend and the tour guide at the time we arrived, but that made the tour all that more interesting as we were pretty much given our own private tour. The tour guide... A first class guide who showed such enthusiasm that you couldn't fail to be engrossed. Great spectacle of our recent past. Not for kids in my opinion. If you do take young children they had better miss the video.

We went on this tour as my husband has an interest in the Cold War. Once inside it is vast, a number of different rooms all ready for the Voluntary staff. A room for operations/control, canteen, toilets, and 2 bedrooms. This all sounds great, BUT! Life inside this bunker would have been far removed from how we live! We had... More

Our guide William gave us a excellent tour of the bunker lasting just over an hour. The only remaining fully-preserved Cold War bunker of it's type in the country, still open to visitors. Fascinating history of the 1960-90s.

A little gem tucked away within easy walking distance of the city centre. Our guides (Liam and Jake) were brilliant and really brought the history to life. A must see!

I suggested this to my friends sheepishly, thinking I'd be the only one game, but everyone was enthusiastic. And we weren't disappointed! Our guide was entertaining and knowledgeable-having answers for even the most challenging of questions without a hint of blagging. Money well spent and a true eye opener on modern day history. Go see it!

This is a terrible place to visit, not because it's a bad venue, it's just reflects the terrible ideals it wa created for. I think everyone should visit. I think it should be mandatory. If everyone went we would get rid of nuclear weapons. It really brings out the horror of it. The visit is guided. It takes about an... More
