We passed through the gardens several times in order to enjoy the beauty but also for the unexpected opportunity to see the tame squirrels feeding from people's hands! This is a beautiful place to relax and to use as a shortcut.

One of my favourite quiet, green places in York (and there are many!). The Abbey ruins and open green areas are brilliant on warm days. An ideal place for picnics or even just stopping off with a coffee from one of the excellent nearby cafes.

A lovely day, sun shining and the gardens were full of families and business people sat out enjoying the weather. Would definitely bring a picnic next time.

From Bootham turn into Marygate and turn right just before the Bay Horse into the car park. After leaving your car return to Marygate and the entrance to the gardens is adjacent to St Olave's Church. There are no toilets... More
