FREE FUN IN YORK... aka The Fabulous York Cat Trail provides both visitors and locals with the opportunity to find and photo the numerous statues of cats which are on York's old buildings. These were put there to frighten away rats and mice. The statues were also thought to ward off wandering evil spirits and to bestow good luck and good health on people. Enjoy the trail... it's FREE! You are warmly invited to download it from our website, or to pick it up from our Shambles based shop

As someone who's York born and bred I'd wanted to do this Trail for a long time. I eventually persuaded my 16 year old daughter to accompany me and we had such a special day. On a crisp Saturday morning in late November we started the Trail at 10.45, stopped for lunch at Burr Cafe on Lendal two thirds of... More

We completed the Lucky Cat trail on our first day in York and it was a great way to get your bearings and to see parts of York you may not have been to before. It also makes you look up and appreciate to architecture. At a steady pace it took us about 2 1/2 hours to complete

If you like cats, this is for you. Hidden above eye level around York are small cat statues. Pick up a free map at York Glass in the Shambles and wander around looking for the cats. This is a fun way to explore York.

I had stumbled on information about the York Cat Trail by accident before our arrival in York for a one week visit. I'm so glad I did. What an unique and fun adventure. We ended up just wandering around the town streets being amazed at all the different architecture and styles of buildings. And looking for cats !!! Another day... More

We picked up a leaflet in York with a map of about 22 cats to find. We decided to pick out 11 to do and if the grandchildren enjoyed it we would save to other 11 for another day. We had a great time finding them, some had names already, others we gave them names. As we passed the Lucky... More

We enjoyed the hunt and it took us away from our usual haunts in York. The map could have been a little clearer as the children found it quite frustrating when they couldn't find the cats but then again, it was free, so you can't complain. We noticed a few other families peering at their maps and there was a... More

There seem to be 2 cat trails rather than one, one leaflet guide available from the glass shop in the shambles and the other from the cat shop in low petergate. I followed the former and there appears very little in it. The trail shows you parts of York you may be unfamiliar with and is great if you like... More

I did this walk with my two boys both under three and my nephews 8 and 11 and my parents so we only did the short pedestrian route. Picked up the leaflet and off we went. The route was easy and doable with a pushchair. The clues were good and could be easily followed by the older boys. The younger... More
