Really enjoyed our visit here well worth the admission charge. We had a brief talk from one of the guides there which was very informative. A must see while visiting York.

This museum is brilliant and there is plenty to see and do. It is value for money at £10 , which includes the gift aid foundation donation. There are plenty of staff around to help and give advice. If the weather is good or bad then this place ideal to visit as it will keep you entertained for hours. Over... More

Have been to numerous Castle museums and thought this would be exactly the same however was pleasantly surprised with how well they had managed to bring everything to life and make it so interesting. The street was particularly good and you really felt you were walking through an authentic York street. Guides were on hand to bring subjects to life... More

This place is in a completely different league, here you will be surprised positively, this is one of the best attractions i have ever visited and it's very cheap, this is a place you definitely have to go, you will never regret going in here and you will love the history behind it and how the things connect.

The highlight of the museum is of course the Victorian street. Beautifully made with all types of original shops and a sweet shop where you can buy sugar mice or a few other traditional type sweets. The rest of museum is set out nicely with rooms to view from different time periods. A costume section and toy section. A whole... More

We are not at all sure about The Castle Museum because although it has its good points, it also has bad ones. First impressions were not good in that there are NO concessions for senior citizens. The museum has two distinct parts; one based on the former female prison, the other on the former debtors’ prison. Between the two are... More

The exhibition prior to the Victorian street are rather haphazard. The Street itself was well done although rather dark and depressing. The world War 1 trench experience could have been more life like. The museum does not make any concessions for age or for arriving in the afternoon. I found it disappointing after the much more entertaining Jorvik centre which... More
