A hidden place, with a feeling of respect and good information about the history associated with it. A place of peace and reflection, with angelic statues. Reflections of a secondary-age student group visit.

This simple and unassuming Shrine is in the centre of the Shambles and is well worth a few minutes of your time if you are passing. I had no idea this place even existed. The inspirational story of Margaret Clitherow, who was born Margaret Middleton and known as ‘the Pearl of York’, is both sad and fascinating. She was a... More

Tucked away on the Shambles, and easy to miss. This small shrine remembers Margaret who died , by being crushed under a door, for her catholic faith. Only requires a short stop, and a prayer if you wish.

The point is covered during the guided tours. It ideally takes 10-15 mins to cover this historical shrine.

In the Shambles ..... look out for what looks like an old house with its green plaque outside. Tranquil and peaceful original home of a True Saint of York a Martyr for the Faith. TIP: Mass is celebrated here at 10am on Saturdays. Leave a prayer in the book on the window sill. Lovely ...... just lovely and its FREE... More

This is the house where the Saint who died for being a catholic in the 1500s in York. The death was barbaric where she was leant over a stone with a door weighted on top of her.

It is a small house in the Shambles and is a Shrine to Margaret Clitherow who lived there in 1586 and was made a Saint in 1970. It is small little chapel. Well worth a visit but do some research on the person to get the full feel for who she was and what she did.

The original house of a York saint who would not denounce her beliefs and was killed in a horrific way because them has been turned into a shrine in her memory. Nice little building in a busy part of the city.
