Travelled to and from York by train. This is a very unremarkable station which has all the usual things you would expect to see in a station eateries vending etc . Taxi rank and bus stops just outside

When we were there, the platforms were clean and well-signposted. Nice modern station with good choice of amenities and a fine craft ale bar called the York Tap (next to a pub selling the standard range of beers.

A very Historic, but Now Moderised Railway Station. Easy access to the City. By foot, Bus or Taxi. If arriving in March/April the first sight you will see is the Maots down from the Bar Walls will be covered In Daffodils.

Arriving by train in York and walking through this very fine station is a pleasure. The architecture is magnificent and all required amenities are available, cafes, pubs, small shops etc. A good start to a break in York.

Very imposing and grand station which shows how important a place it was on the railway map, busy and scenic, worth seeing

We were disappointed by our experience here. Having bought first class tickets, we expected the benefit of a first class lounge - there isn't one! Weather was appalling so you get the choice of sitting in a cramped costa, a busy pub or waiting on...More

Very clean, and near the main part of town. If you had a lay over, take a walk into town, or the train museum nearby

Actually just a lovely station. Obviously very well looked after and cleaned well unlike a lot of train stations (Edinburgh and Glasgow, I'm looking at you). Reasonably warm considering and will keep you out the rain! Staff all seem very approachable and helpful.

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
I'm considering heading to Manchester airport for an early morning flight which would mean getting on a train at 01:38 from York. However the train times mean I would actually need to ARRIVE in York just before 23:00 and wait for two and a half hours. Maybe the York Tap would still be open for the first half an hour, but that still leaves two hours. I believe the waiting rooms are closed overnight, which means sitting on a platform bench for two hours which could be cold and breezy (I'm talking October here). Obviously it's not worth booking a hotel or any accommodation for two hours - so ... any other suggestions? Anyone???

Depending on the day of the week, there will be late opening in the centre of York (Friday and Saturday). How about getting to Manchester earlier and sitting in one of the on airport bars (as they will be a better prospect... More
