Worth spending time to walk around the city walls to give you a good idea of the city size and history. Recommend going to Walmgate Bar which is the only gate that still has the Barbican entry.

Worth a stroll even if you only do a little bit of the wall. We were lucky as we did this late afternoon, with the afternoon sun lighting the beautiful minister.

This has to be one of the star attractions of York. But constant attention is required since people keep stopping for photos and they're not always considerate to pull to the side before getting their cameras/smartphones out to take the shots Hence my motorway reference. Slow/stationary pedestrians should pull in and let those through who just want to keep going.... More

There are some fantastic gardens to view from above and a lot of different views of the city with its eclectic mixture of ancient and modern. Occasionally the path is quite narrow and one bit had no railings to prevent a fall, but the drop... More

Interesting to follow the walls around as they weave around central York. The parts near York Minster wee very busy. Much quieter and pleasant away from there. Would time future walk to be early or late in the day around York Minster.

If you are interested in the history of York, the wall should be included in your tour of the city. Parts of the original wall, built by Romans in 71 AD, still remain including the Multangular Tower. This tower, found in the Museum Gardens, is thought to have been added by Constantine around 310 AD. There were many additions to... More

Very interesting atraction amazed the this construction is in such good condition after all of these years and the battles it endured, need to take a rest so the coffe stop was much needed, it's such a shame the day was a little wet and overcast. We had little time to do much more as we had arrived in York... More

Had a pleasant walk along the city walls. Gives a good history of the city past and present. With views into people's back gardens.

Interesting to see a walled city with so much of the walls still intact. We walked the walls for a distance . Beautiful
