Whilst my teenage daughter was a little underwhelmed when she saw the wall that we had been talking about all morning, when we got out of the car and explored the wall and talked about the History - even she was impressed. Its quite a landmark - in the literal sense of the world and also as a marker of... More

I've visited most of the wall, but not yet walked it! Fog, rain, sunshine there's always something to experience. Plan your visit according to the weather, Steel Rigg for stunning views, Houseteads, Vindolanda or similar if visibility is poor. SOme sites have car parking alongside the viewing area (Steel Rigg), others require a brisk walk (Housesteads, 750m, though there is... More

Wonderful walk with ruins of forts & lovely vistas - can be steep at times. There are several car parks and one ticket is good for all car parks. We spent the better part of the day hiking various sections - all around a great experience.

This wall is almost as old as the Colosseum in Rome. There is still a lot of the wall standing and you can spend a lot of time and energy exploring it. We enjoyed exploring sections of it and not tackling to many of the steep sections.

Free if just see the wall (pay for parking). Can take stroller with suitable tires. Good to see wall and outside of fort though the wall in that section is only a few feet high.

I can understand the historic importance and all, but the stretch I have visited had nothing impressive about it. I think it's overstated.

Great view point of the wall, excellent place to hike from/to or just take pictures. Housesteads Roman Fort also good, fort ruins mostly foundations. Highly recommend a full day, my half morning reconnaissance not nearly enough other than to plan for a longer stay and hike.

Viewing what's left of Hadrian's Wall varies along its considerable 73 mile course. My recommendation is - head for the area around Housesteads Fort to see the remains of a typical Roman Fort that housed nearly 1000 soldiers. Then park at Steel Rigg car park and walk the 20- 30 minute walk to Sycamore Gap. You won't be disappointed.

We walked a small section of the wall near Once Brewed, parking at Steel Rigg Carpark. For its age and exposure to the elements, I was quite surprised how much actually remains. Some decent climbs to follow the wall as it hugs the terrain, but worth every huff and puff.
