Formerly a key military post on the northern frontier of Britain, Vindolanda is the home of Britain's 'Top Treasure' - the Vindolanda Writing Tablets - and is one Europe's most important Roman archeological sites, with live excavations taking place every year. The recently fully refurbished on site museum provides a breathtaking exploration of the Trust's ongoing discoveries and accounts of Roman life. There are no other places on earth where it is possible to experience Roman Britain, Hadrian's Wall and history coming to life before your very eyes all in one space! Come and explore it for yourself and find out why Vindolanda is treasured worldwide.

The site is huge and definitely worth visiting if you are in the area. The accompanying museum is fantastic giving loads of history into life in Roman Britain. The cafe in the museum was very good.

It is such an amazing experience to watch a live archaeological site. The museum provides solid context to the grounds and then to have the option to explore the entire grounds. Well worth the trip from Edinburgh.

This is still being excavated, and the team behind it do an amazing job of getting new finds cleaned-up and into the ever-expanding museum. Some of the material there really is time-machine standard - especially the shoes, funnily enough. Best of all, the signage is...More

I am a bit bewildered by your question. It is a historical site and they are still excavating the area, so i do not think dogs would be a good idea.
