An amazing site in the middle of one of the most beautiful parts of Britain. Large site with an extensive range of Roman remains. They have even built a reconstruction of one of the old gate houses. Brilliant museum and great visitor facilities.

I'll start with the warning - there are car parks at both ends of this site! I think the combination of a car driver trying to meet up with a motorcyclist certainly made for entertainment when we first arrived! The staff are excellent, friendly and...More

Extensive ruins to wander around with helpful boards providing good information (with Latin translations should you need them!). At the bottom of the site is a good cafe and a first class museum with excellent items on display. All in all, Vindolanda is a must-see...More

An incredible site, many volunteers excavating the site and all willing to chat and give information about what had been found. A very good museum with fascinating items and stories.

Large, well created, exploration of Roman border down. The site has archaeologists in residence uncovering new parts of the site. The recreations are good and informative.

Excellent, good full of interest walk around the site, topped off by visit to the brilliant museum. Good cafe too. We found it best to start at the entrance on the side opposite the cafe. Our American visitors loved everything about Vindolanda.

Fascinating collection of Roman artefacts in the museum, remnants of fort well presented in lovely setting. Lovely to sit in the beautiful garden near the cafe where robins, blue tits and gold crests hopped around us, good quality reasonably priced food in the cafe :0)

We combined our ticket here with one to the Roman Army museum 7 miles away at the cost of £10 (concessions). There was a large open area of the ruins of Vindolanda which included excavation sites. Vindolanda was a large Roman fort, in place before...More

A wonderful day out. So much to see that one day really isn't enough. Can't wait to go again, take a picnic and see the things I missed first time round

Assistance dogs are allowed on the site and in the museum, but other animals (i.e. pets) are not allowed.
I intend to visit in December, as we are visiting family for Xmas, we have two small dogs and noted that they are not allowed on site. We understand this, but would it be possible for them to sit outside the café and is there an area we can walk them first and leave them in the car. Many thanks
